Facility Services and OHS Manager (Temporary Term Position for Up to 18 Months) Join to apply for the Facility Services and OHS Manager (Temporary Term Position for Up to 18 Months) role at MNP Community & Sport Centre Over the next 18 months, you will oversee all custodial, parking, and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) operations, ensuring the Centre’s building and grounds are safe, clean, accessible, and well‑maintained. Your role will involve risk management, incident collaboration with the Senior Duty Manager, vendor liaison, and serving as the primary safety leader for the facility. Responsibilities Embrace the Centre’s mission, vision and values and instill them in your team. Lead regular in‑services within your areas of responsibility. Co‑coach, mentor, and empower employees to handle operational challenges and provide exceptional service. Recommend annual goals for Facility Services and OHS aligned with the Centre’s strategic plan and ensure objectives are met. Ensure training is provided for all staff, including new‑hire and job‑specific training. Partner with HR to recruit and onboard new hires. Serve as the Centre’s Health & Safety leader and subject‑matter expert, championing a safety‑compliant culture. Establish strong working relationships within the team, other departments, and customers. Ensure effective internal and external communication across responsibilities. Maintain full compliance with federal, provincial and local health and safety legislation. Lead internal audits, inspections and regulatory incident investigations. Recommend changes to policies, procedures and work conditions to enhance safety and efficiency. Coordinate safety orientation for contractors and monitor their compliance with Alberta OHS codes. Communicate OHS management system updates and enterprise‑wide safety initiatives. Measure departmental OHS programs and propose improvements. Maintain the Emergency Response Plan, conduct tabletop exercises and organise Centre‑wide drills. Develop and maintain monthly scorecard data and quarterly/annual health & safety reports, presenting to the Board of Governors as requested. Manage safety initiatives and projects, including training delivery and ergonomic assessments. Ensure safety data sheets, crash‑investigation procedures, and incident documentation are accurate and retained. Coordinate relevant emergency-response partnerships and lead after‑action debriefs. Oversee custodial and parking schedules, ensuring coverage and compliance. Negotiate and liaise with Facility Services and OHS contractors, ensuring fair pricing. Administer Centre‑wide employee and contractor access systems, key distribution and swipe card permissions. Maintain accident‑and‑incident software in collaboration with the Senior Duty Manager. Supervise custodial activities, cleaning schedules, waste management and recycling programmes. Supervise Custodian Shift Leads on facility inspections and corrective actions. Submit payroll for Facility Services timely. Prepare draft operational and capital budgets, administer approved budgets, and review purchase orders and invoices. Monitor cost‑saving and efficiency opportunities within responsibilities. Ensure procurement of janitorial and safety supplies and keep SOPs up to date. Audit and evaluate vendor and contractor performance to guarantee quality service. Manage furniture replacements, repairs and internal office relocations. Serve as Centre Fire Warden on rotation. Manage Centre contracts covering cleaning, pest control, fire suppression, vending, waste, window washing and snow removal. Support the Facility Operations Manager on fire‑suppression system maintenance. Assist tenants with safety, custodial and parking matters. Attend and participate in Manager meetings and HR one‑on‑one sessions. Lead and recruit Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee members. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in OHS or related field (asset). Certified Safety Professional or Occupational Health & Safety Technologist (preferred). Current knowledge of Alberta OHS legislation and best practices. Proficiency in emergency response planning, contractor safety management and accessibility standards. Minimum five years of health & safety experience. Experience in custodial and parking management (asset). Leadership experience. Budget preparation and forecast experience. Stakeholder engagement and emergency response coordination. Conflict resolution, collaboration, people‑management skills. Team building, independent work, proactive attitude. Excellent verbal and written communication for diverse audiences. Proficient with Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint). Flexibility to work variable hours as business needs dictate. Current CPR Level C and Standard First Aid certifications.
