We are seeking a technically strong Lead Waste Engineer who wants to take an active role in growing our North American team to leverage GHD’s significant experience in new and innovative technologies.We’re seeking the curious, those who are stimulated by fresh thinking and a desire to shape our communities in new, positive ways.As part of a truly global team, working on complex and rewarding projects, you'll be at the forefront of driving change.See what the power of commitment can do for youWorking with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:Needs Assessment: Uncover emerging issues or needs, identifying potential causes, barriers, and key stakeholders, as well as related issues.Improvement/Innovation: Identify shortcomings in existing business practices, then suggest and implement improvements while developing and delivering projects or a work stream within the organization's change management program. Involves working with guidance from senior colleagues.Culture of Innovation: Drive a culture of innovation by creating multistakeholder solutions that boost creativity, innovation, and collaboration across business units, such as idea generation platforms, jam sessions, and hackathons.Engineering Solutions Design: Design engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a design brief (for example, in terms of functionality, performance, aesthetics, and cost) that conforms to organizational and/or regulatory standards.Engineering Standards Specification: Analyze information, draft engineering standards and specifications, and evaluate the effectiveness of those standards within own engineering discipline to ensure work of the required quality is delivered and to inform engineering work in the organization and/or of its suppliers, contractors, and consultants.Knowledge Management: Develop policies and processes, create best practices, set up case studies, and deliver internal knowledge-sharing sessions to capture and share knowledge among colleagues on project/program outcomes and innovative practices in a particular area of expertise and to support the practice.Health, Safety, and Environment: Monitor and review performance against health, safety, and environment (HSE) key performance indicators (KPIs) and patterns of behavior within the area of responsibility. Take action to improve performance and to resolve noncompliance with the organization's HSE policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions.Technical Developments Recommendation: Discuss and recommend more complex or innovative technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/application software and supporting infrastructure to better meet users’ needs.Professional Supervision: Lead and oversee the provision of professional supervision to ensure that there is effective professional supervision that supports practitioners' professional development and embeds reflective practice.Feasibility Studies: Conduct complex feasibility studies from a technological and organizational perspective and document findings to complete cost-benefit analysis on implementing changes to business processes, products, or business unit structure.Waste Management: Manage specific segments of waste management, involving waste reduction programs, waste segregation, compliance, storage, transport, and disposal.Project Management: Manage a portfolio of projects while reporting to senior colleagues.Client & Customer Management (External): Manage important client relationships with guidance from senior colleagues, or oversee relationship management with a group of more transactional clients and customers.Leading waste and energy solutions projects for municipal and private clients requiring permitting, detailed design, construction management and inspection, operations support, and other studiesCompleting peer reviews of designs completed by other team membersEstablishing and maintain long-lasting client relationships with municipal and private clients and prospectsProviding mentorship to intermediate and junior technical staff across North AmericaLeading technical approach development for new project proposalsUndertaking liaison activities with regulatorsProviding leadership in the growth and direction of the North American TeamEducationBachelor's Degree, Master's Degree would be considered and assetEngineer with a P.Eng. in Ontario, accreditation in other jurisdictions is an assetWhat You Bring To The TeamGeneral Experience: Wide and deep experience providing expert competenceManagerial Experience: Experience of supervising and directing people and other resources to achieve specific end results within limited timeframes15+ years of experience in the solid waste industryMinimum of 10 years’ experience in a consulting roleValid Ontario driver's license with driving record in good standingWillingness and ability for occasional project travel and oversight of field work by teamProficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPointWorking understanding of Autodesk AutoCAD or Civil 3D an assetExcellent verbal and written communications skills and ability to work in a highly-skilled and diversified project teamExperience in landfill and landfill gas, transfer station, and waste facility design.
