The Project Manager is located in Vancouver and typically reports directly to the Operations Manager or Division Manager.

The successful candidate will plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate assigned project(s) from start to finish and in accordance with the estimate, schedule, specifications, and budget. Their primary focus is safety, planning, monitoring progress, scheduling, quality, costs management, estimating, reporting, and managing project change under the direction of senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide leadership for assigned project in regards to cost, schedule, quality, safety, and contract performance.
  2. Prepare and submit project estimates and price/negotiate all changes in scope as required.
  3. Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards as per company policy and contract specifications.
  4. Establish and maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders including Black & McDonald team members, clients, consultants, joint venture partners, trades, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and the community, while keeping them informed of relevant information.
  5. Plan, prepare, monitor, and manage construction schedule and milestones.
  6. Ensure work is performed in compliance with applicable standards – ie. HSE regulations, company policies and procedures, and contract requirements.
  7. Monitor and report on progress, labour productivity, work outcomes, budget, cost, and forecast.
  8. Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and consultants.
  9. Review work/contracts/WIP for areas of risk and correct deficiencies.
  10. Ensure material and equipment are available to tradespersons.
  11. Ensure monthly cost forecasting and checklists are completed accurately and on time.
  12. Ensure accurate productivity reports are completed weekly.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  1. 10+ years as a Project Manager in the construction industry with a contractor.
  2. 10+ years working in the utilities and/or civil industry.
  3. Proven experience in estimation, strategic procurement, and negotiation.
  4. Experience commissioning, integration, and applying QA/QC to projects.
  5. Experience with mentoring Junior and Intermediate Project Managers.
  6. Experience with medium and high voltage utility work, roadway lighting, traffic signals, and substations is considered an asset.
  7. Experience with P3 and/or design-build projects is considered an asset.
  8. Experience in WWTP projects is considered an asset.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  1. Degree or Diploma in one of the following is considered an asset:
  • Red Seal Journeyman or Electrical Technologist Degree
  • Construction Management
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
The following certifications/designations are considered an asset:
  • P.Eng. Designation
  • PMP Designation
  • Gold Seal Certification
  • Construction safety certifications
Experience as a tradesperson in the electrical trade may substitute for education requirements. SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Proficient knowledge and understanding of:

  • Contract management.
  • Construction scheduling, planning, and execution.
  • Blue print reading.
  • Project structural design interpretation.
  • Financial statements – read and comprehend.
  • Established utilities practices, procedures, and techniques.
  • Applicable local and provincial labour codes.
  • Managing / leading union and non-union staff.
  • Business operations processes.
  • Organization and time management.

Proficient user of:

  • MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Microsoft Project (required).
  • JD Edwards or an Oracle-based ERP system.
  • Bid2Win.

Willing and able to travel in British Columbia.

Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with a clean record required.

Salary and Benefits

The expected salary range for this role is between $110,000 and $130,000. The starting salary will be based on several factors such as the successful candidate’s qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Salary is one component of Black & McDonald’s total rewards package. Total rewards vary by position and may include additional offerings such as vehicle allowance, group insurance benefits, pension plan, annual performance bonus, career development programs, and other HR programs.
