The Chiefs of Ontario are welcoming applications for a Research Analyst as part of the Research and Data Management Team. The position will perform research as part of a Ministry of Health funded project – Data Discovery and Governance Design Project.
The research projects focus on:
• First Nations Regional Data Landscape Scan: The scan will identify First Nations health and social data, where it is located, who possesses it, and how it is managed and accessed.
This information will be essential in future discussions on the role of OCAP in the provincial data ecosystem.
• Exploratory Paper – Alliance Model: The research project will examine different perspectives on how an alliance might be built between a regional central health data authority and
First Nations in Ontario. Points of inter-dependance as well as alignment with: the principles of OCAP, national instruments such as the United Nations Declaration on Indigenous People, and
initiatives such as the Truth and Reconciliation recommendations will be highlighted in this exploration of First Nations data governance through alliance.
The Research Analyst will work with the Director of Research and Data Management and is a member of the Research and Data Management team at the Chiefs of Ontario. The Research Analyst will have excellent organizational and analytic skills and will be involved in planning, organizing, and implementing work within the department. The Research Analyst will conduct their activities and interactions in a manner that is respectful of diversity, and in alignment with First Nations culture and traditions
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Complete a First Nations Regional Data Landscape Scan
• Research models of ally-ship and complete an exploratory paper describing potential alliance models for First Nations in Ontario and a provincial data health authority.
• Build relationships and knowledge that advances First Nations data.
• Build and maintain relationships with First Nations leaders, Provincial and external organizations.
• Provide progress reports and prepare memos, briefing notes, speaking notes and presentations.
• Attend meetings and gatherings when required
QUALIFICATIONS:
•A graduate degree in health, indigenous relations or science or 5 to 10 years’ experience in the First Nations or indigenous research.
• Knowledge of First Nation traditions cultures and values; understanding the history and relationship between First Nations and the Crown.
• Experience working with First Nations communities and/or organizations is an asset.
• Knowledge of data governance principles for First Nations data in Ontario.
• Knowledge of privacy and related regulations related to data
• Experience in research and report writing.
• Experience in quantitative and qualitative research.
• Experience with provincial and federal governments such as Ministry of Health and Public Health Ontario, Indigenous Services Canada.
• Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal.
• Excellent project coordination skills with the ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple projects.
• Demonstrated ability to problem solve and function independently.
• Must be trustworthy, reliable and maintain confidentiality.
DURATION: February 1, 2021 to March 31 2023 (potential for renewable based on available funding and performance)
