Senior Accountant

Full Time, Permanent

Hybrid– Scarborough ON

Purpose

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The Senior Accountant has a crucial role in overseeing the accounting operations and financial reporting processes of the company and its subsidiaries.

1. Preparation and review of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
2. Support the month-end and year-end closing processes for all operating companies; this includes posting journal entries, managing account reconciliations, intercompany transactions and accruals
3. Verify the accuracy and completeness of all financial data and resolve any discrepancies
4. Responsible for the distribution and understanding of all overhead departmental expenses
5. Act as the point person for all expense inquiries by stakeholders; budget departmental spend
6. Analyze financial data and performance metrics to identify trends and variances for multiple subsidiaries
7. Daily cash flow
8. Weekly cash flow forecast
9. Daily bank reconciliation
10. Manage all fixed asset accounts and the asset database, ensuring each asset has proper documentation for when depreciation will begin
11. Work with Procurement on all asset disposals
12. Work closely with PMO to ensure all fixed asset accounts reconcile monthly to ongoing capital projects
13. Understand what makes up the budget and track how departments are spending vs. budget
14. Forecast capital spend and depreciation for the next fiscal
15. Upload and reconcile budget figures in Visual and Synoptix
16. Work with external auditors to help facilitate audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations
17. Help address any audit findings and implement corrective actions
18. Other duties as assigned

Skills, Experience and Education:

1. Bachelor's degree and CPA designation in good standing
2. Minimum 4 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial reporting
3. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and reporting standards
4. Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems. Experience with financial reporting tools is a plus
5. Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and financial modeling
6. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail
7. Strong leadership capability
8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
9. Solid understanding of internal controls, risk management, and compliance requirements
10. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
11. High ethical standards and a commitment to confidentiality and data integrity
