SKILLS:

  1. A working knowledge of common machine shop techniques.
  2. Must be proficient in AutoCAD and Solid Works.
  3. Must be capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.
  4. A thorough knowledge of the use of electrical devices (i.e. switches, load cells, LVDT’s, etc.).
  5. Must demonstrate a strong ability to conceptualize and create solutions for complex design requirements.
    1. Perform engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc. as related to machine and tool designs.
    2. Analyze engineering drawings, and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness etc. li>
    3. Produce working drawings, detail drawings and bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies or product, using AutoCAD and Solid Works.
    4. Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards (i.e. li>
    5. Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, etc.
    6. Strictly follow CSA N285/NQA Quality requirements as defined within the manual and procedures.
    7. Will liaise with customers and in-house technical and engineering staff.
    8. Will liaise with vendors for technical information and specifications.
    9. Communicate all requested design changes to their Mechanical Design Group Leader.
    10. Will periodically supervise the mechanical design effort on a project level delegating tasks to a team of people.
    11. Organize documentation, including quotes, drawing registers, correspondence, requisitions, drawings, schedules, etc. on projects you are supervising.
    12. Review electrical requirements with respect to input and output devises with electrical designers.
    13. Determine tools, fixtures and equipment to be used in fabrication and assembly of mechanical components and complete assemblies.
    14. Select appropriate purchase component for mechanical assemblies and create requisitions with appropriate delivery dates.

    Additional Information

    Education:

    A post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, mechanical engineering or equivalent.

    Experience:

    A minimum of 10 years’ Mechanical Design experience with expertise within an Automation design environment (designs utilizing pneumatics, valves, servos, mechanisms, etc).
