Course Description The shift from old patterns of self‑directed behaviour to new demands of shared responsibility and leadership in professional roles is examined in relation to advertising practice. Autonomy, time and financial management, navigating spatial and accessibility barriers, ethical sensitivity, and other disciplinary skills are explored and reflected in collaborative projects that require the recognition of social and environmental changes affecting communities, advertising sponsors, and in turn the stance and responsibilities of the new practitioner. Responsibilities The successful applicant should have a Bachelor’s degree in design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience. Outstanding communication skills, and a demonstrated capacity to support and resource independent studio investigations, are essential to teaching at this level. A demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and proven ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population of students and faculty underpin all academic positions at OCAD U. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in advertising or graphic design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience in the advertising industry. Outstanding communication skills, and a demonstrated capacity to support and resource investigations are essential to teaching at this level. A demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and proven ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population of students and faculty underpin all academic positions at OCAD U. A current body of work within the Advertising professional creative field and/or academic disciplines as it relates to the course description(s). Ability to develop projects to support students in developing a portfolio‑ready body of work in relation to the future of the industry. A demonstrated capacity to support students in crafting their skills and knowledge of the advertising industry, and can give students 360‑degree knowledge of the industry (e.g. time management, planning, art direction, creative direction, client accounts, etc.). Experience in the field of advertising possess a collaborative work process. Experience with, and aptitude for, highly iterative, process‑oriented work without the restriction of fixed outcomes or expectations. Knowledge of equitable practices within the current advertising industry, with the ability to critique. Demonstrated leadership and experience in promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty. Additional Skills Considered an Asset Two (2) years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level in a related Design discipline. Experience in how AI is currently used in the advertising industry. Working skillset of the required software and tools, e.g. AI tools, and application, e.g. Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and others). Terms of Employment Sessional appointments are fixed‑term annual contracts. Sessional compensation includes a per‑course pay scale with salary level of $7,508.00 (per 0.5 credit course) plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act. These positions are subject to budgetary approval and satisfactory enrolment levels.
