The Faculty of Art invites applications for the following anticipated course offerings in the Winter 2025-26 academic term: EXAN-3013: Stop Motion Puppet Show (0.5 credit) (Winter 2026 Semester: January 8, 2026 – April 24, 2026; Wednesday: 8:30AM - 11:30AM; In-Person) COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course guides students through every step of producing a short film for stop-motion puppet animation. This course combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, equipping students with the skills needed to produce high-quality puppet animations from concept to completion. Techniques covered include frame-by-frame puppet manipulation for convincing movement and performance, use of rigs and motion control, set design and construction of sets, as well as the implementation of effective lighting and sound strategies. Puppet design will be considered critically, focusing on historical issues around representation and stereotypes. This course also includes a thorough examination of current technologies used in stop motion, digital integration, and post-production processes, encompassing editing, compositing, and sound design to produce professional animated productions. RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews; including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines. Qualifications The successful applicant should have a terminal degree in art, design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is considered an asset; equivalent relevant experience will be considered Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills Demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Sessional appointments are fixed-term annual contracts. Sessional compensation includes a per-course pay scale with a salary level of $7,508.00 (per 0.5 credit course) plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act. These positions are subject to budgetary approval and satisfactory enrolment levels.
