The Opportunity:

The Municipal Engineer position supports the Engineering Services Department function by developing and providing review of long-range infrastructure planning, evaluation of development applications and supporting technical information.

Primary accountabilities include:

  1. Develop and support in delivery of long-range planning studies such as the City’s Utility Master Plan, Transportation Master Plan, and Stormwater Master Drainage Plan.
  2. Review Community Area Structure Plans, Neighbourhood Structure Plans, and Subdivision Applications.
  3. Review supporting technical documents in relation to development activities such as Master Drainage Plans, Staged Master Drainage Plans, Servicing Studies, Traffic Impact Assessments and Erosion and Sediment Control Plans.
  4. Support the Planning department in review of development permits to ensure they meet the City’s engineering standards.
  5. Work with the City’s Capital Projects department in delivery of capital infrastructure projects by providing engineering review and subject matter expertise.
  6. Assist in the delivery of Arterial Functional Planning Studies.
  7. Assist in the delivery of design of Water, Wastewater and Stormwater infrastructure.
  8. Provide engineering support for implementation of signal timing plans and traffic signals.
  9. Assist in the delivery of the City’s road rehabilitation program and other transportation system improvements.
  10. Support the City’s field inspectors in reviewing and managing emerging issues during subdivision and development construction.
  11. Represent Engineering Services in external and internal meetings, as required.

You Bring:

A Degree in Civil Engineering with designation as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta and a minimum of 3 years of experience related to municipal engineering (transportation, water, wastewater, stormwater engineering, etc.).

  1. Knowledgeable in the design of municipal infrastructure including transportation, water, wastewater, stormwater systems, etc.
  2. Previous experience reviewing Traffic Impact Assessments and Parking Studies would be an asset.
  3. Experience using RoadMatrix, Synchro 11, Sidra, PCSWMM, WaterCAD, or InfoWorks ICM would be considered an asset.
  4. Practical knowledge and understanding of Municipal Policies and Procedures as well as an understanding of Federal, Provincial and Municipal legislation.
  5. A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License (or equivalent).
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment.
  7. Demonstrated sound judgment, flexibility/adaptability, initiative, and accountability to establish priorities and meet client expectations/deadlines.
  8. Ability to manage your time to meet deadlines on a variety of projects concurrently.
  9. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  10. Demonstrated tact and diplomacy to establish effective working relationships in order to solve problems and resolve conflict.

Additional Information:
