Position Overview This exciting opportunity at Alberta Health Services invites a Physician Assistant (PA) to join the General Surgery team at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The PA reports to the Primary Supervising Physician and Edmonton Zone Acute Care Manager, functioning within a dynamic multidisciplinary team. Under the supervision of a Physician, the PA will provide general medical care to patients with a wide variety of medical conditions within the Hospital Medicine portfolio and will work to full scope of practice. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive direct patient care as a central member of the team, performing comprehensive assessment, making differential diagnoses, ordering appropriate testing, and planning clinical management. Participate in inter‑disciplinary collaboration in the provision of patient care and actively engage in program development and evaluation. Consult with and refer to other health care professionals as indicated, recommend and explain appropriate diagnostic tests and treatment, and instruct and educate patients. Document all aspects of patient care, review clinical care in light of evidence‑based literature, and support discharge planning as needed. Deal regularly with community physicians, other health care providers, and community organizations to facilitate ongoing comprehensive patient care management. Maintain continuing education, training, and development to meet CAPA and patient care requirements, and work collaboratively with all health care providers, patients, and families to ensure continuity of care. Encourage and ensure good working relationships with all members of the team, and if appropriate, provide additional services under the direction and supervision of a Physician within the clinical competence of the PA. Required Qualifications Graduation from a recognized Physician Assistant Education Program. A certified Physician Assistant with one of the following credentials: Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA), Canadian Association of Physician Assistants certification, or Physician Assistant Certified (PA‑C) granted by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants in the United States. Registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Additional Required Qualifications This position is for individuals who have graduated from a certified Physician Assistant Program in Canada or United States.
