Reporting directly to the Deputy Fire Chief, the Training Officer is responsible for the development, delivery, organization, and evaluation of all departmental training programs. This position is required evaluate the requirements of the department and develop programs to support continuous improvement, professional standards and legislative requirements.The Training Officer is required to coordinate directly with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver fire service training to meet legislated requirements and industry best practices. This position is required to provide direction, guidance, recommendations, and instruction to staff related to training programs, services, or initiatives.The Training Officer will perform administrative duties and record keeping in compliance with department policy procedures, and legislative requirements. This position shall be required to maintain professional competency and remain current with new legislation and training programs. This position ensures operational guidelines, health and safety standards, and policies and procedures are incorporated and maintained while developing and delivering all training programs.The Training Officer must have a flexible schedule to accommodate work in the evenings and on weekends.Selection Criteria:Legally entitled to work in CanadaOntario Secondary School Diploma, or equivalentNFPA 1041, Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Level IComprehensive knowledge, skills, and abilities of firefighting operations including terminology, principles and practices, apparatus, equipment, and NFPA standardsDemonstrated ability in the development, implementation, and delivery of fire service trainingPrevious experience as a Training Officer in a Municipal Fire ServiceExperience supervising and instructing Firefighters and OfficersAbility to utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)and Learning Management Systems to create and deliver training materialsClass “DZ” driver’s licensewith a satisfactory drivers abstractStandard First Aid, CPR Level C, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) CertificationSatisfactory Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector CheckAdditional Preferred Qualifications:Post Secondary Education in a related field or disciplineJoint Health & Safety (JHSC) Part 1, Part 2 certificationAdvanced medical training or instructor certificationNFPA 1041, Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Level IIBlue Card certified or demonstrated knowledge and experience in incident commandMental Health and WellnessinstructorTechnical rescue experience or instructorNFPA 1521, Fire Department Safety OfficerCompensation is based on a 40-hour workweek in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
