Sessional Lecturer - PHLB07H3: Ethics (Emergency Posting) PHLB07H3 - Ethics - Winter 2026 What is the difference between right and wrong? What is 'the good life'? What is well-being? What is autonomy? These notions are central in ethical theory, law, bioethics, and in the popular imagination. In this course we will explore these concepts in greater depth, and then consider how our views about them shape our views about ethics. Job Details The following position for a Sessional Lecturer is available in the Department of Philosophy for the Winter 2026 academic session. This is an emergency posting in accordance with the Collective Agreement between The Governing Council of the University of Toronto and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902 Unit 3. Please note that the position below is tentative, pending final course determinations and enrolments. In accordance with the Collective Agreement, this posting is being sent as an email notification to all applicants in the Department’s Applicant Pool: all Sessional Lecturers who are teaching for the Department during the current academic year or who have taught for the Department within the past twenty-four months and all persons who have submitted an application within the past twenty-four months. Preference in hiring will be given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12. Salary In accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the rate of pay for Sessional Lecturer I will be $9,820.70 for a half course inclusive of 4% vacation pay. Please note that should rates stated in the collective agreement vary from the rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. Appointment Dates January 1, 2026 – April 30, 2026 Sessional Dates (including exam periods) January 5, 2026 – April 24, 2026. Job Title Sessional Lecturer - PHLB07H3: Ethics Up to 150 Winter 2026 Minimum Qualifications PhD in philosophy with specialization or competency in the subject area; strong academic record and professional promise; ongoing research and scholarly publications in the field; one year of prior experience as a course instructor in philosophy; relevant and recent teaching experience. Preference will be given to applicants who have clearly demonstrated teaching excellence in the subject matter. Duties All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours.
