Associate Lawyer

OverviewCaron & Partners LLP is a leading Calgary law firm with a strong reputation in immigration law. We are seeking a Junior Lawyer to join our Immigration Law Department. This position is ideal for a lawyer with at least 2 years of immigration law experience who is passionate about litigation and advocacy before the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Federal Court.ResponsibilitiesConduct legal research and stay current with case law and immigration policy developments.Draft well-reasoned and persuasive written submissions for a range of complex immigration matters, including humanitarian and compassionate (H&C) applications, Pre-Removal Risk Assessments (PRRAs), admissibility hearings, responses to procedural fairness letters, and Judicial Reviews.Work closely with clients to elicit relevant details about their cases, ensure accuracy of facts, and assist in drafting supporting narratives and affidavits.Prepare clients to testify at hearings, including explaining procedures, addressing credibility concerns, and conducting practice sessions.Represent clients in immigration hearings before the IRB, including refugee claims, admissibility and detention matters, and appeals.Prepare and argue applications for judicial review and stay motions before the Federal Court.Collaborate with senior lawyers and the immigration team on strategy and client management.QualificationsLL.B. or J.D. and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.Minimum 2 years of experience in Canadian immigration law.Demonstrated interest in litigation, advocacy, and written/oral submissions.Exceptional English language ability, with strong communication skills both orally and in writing.Strong research, drafting, and analytical skills.Diligent and detail-oriented, with the ability to prepare thoroughly for hearings and manage complex files.Resilient and confident advocate, unafraid to take on challenging cases or appear in demanding tribunal and court settings.Highly driven and eager to learn, with a commitment to going beyond the minimum and putting in the effort needed to achieve the best outcomes for clients.Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to manage competing deadlines.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe.Strong interpersonal skills and a client-focused approach.Ability to manage files independently while contributing to a team environment.Entrepreneurial mindset with an interest in developing an independent practice over time, even if not yet established.Why Join Us?Caron & Partners LLP offers a professional environment where junior lawyers can build their skills and develop as advocates.
