We are looking for One (1) Human Resources Advisor who is responsible for working under the direction of the HR Manager to collaboratively work with various program Managers, Coordinators to ensure best practices in administration, training and people management are adopted throughout the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre. The HR Advisor will assist in all areas of human resources and work towards building capacity as growth continues. This position requires a high degree of confidentiality and organization an understanding of Indigenous world views, practices, cultural knowledge and ways of working in community.Key ResponsibilitiesManage and maintain employee records in a Human Resources Information System, and support assist with data entry and ensure accuracy of employee information.Tracking employee time off requests in the HRIS to insure employee complianceHelp review the MNFC Personal Policies, recommends revisions and provides support to the Executive Director in policy revisions/ development.Assists the HR Manager in ensuring the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre is in compliance with all federal and provincial employment standards codesSupports with hiring needs & full cycle recruitment and onboardingMaintains consistent job descriptions, salary guidelines/ pay grid and employment contracts are utilizedAssist management in identifying organizational strengths and identifying human resource capacity.As part of the HR Team provides advice and direction to management on employee performance management and progressive disciplinary procedures as neededAssist the implementing performance management, skill evaluation and to ensure performance reviews are documented and filedAssist management with conflict resolution, feedback, templates for incident investigation and written warningsAssists in developing strategies to ensure organizational mission, vision and goals are realized. Participates in management discussions and round table decision making and problem-solving issuesCreates administrative tools to help aid in implementation of HR best practicesAssists managers in training and certification requests for documents (Vulnerable Sector Check/ Child Abuse Registrar)Manages employee HR filing system, keeps files up to date and manages archived systemMust use a high degree of confidentialityWorks in tandem with organizational partners (CPHRNS), regarding employment insurance and the federal & provincial labour departments.Assists Management in organizing employee training eventsKeep up to date with latest HR trends and best practicesMay take training as it pertains to the HR Advisor positionAdheres to the MNFC Policy & ProceduresMay perform other related duties as assignedRequired Qualifications, Skills And Abilities (QSA)Degree or Diploma Business Administration, Human Resources focused concentration from a community college or universityPreferably a CPHRNS designation or current member, a combination of experience and education may be considered;Working knowledge of Employment Standards Labour Laws and other Human Resources pertinent legislation;Demonstrated computer skills, e.g. Microsoft Office 365, excel, word, power pointExperience with HRIS Systems, such as HumiGood interpersonal skills, organization ability, and written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated effective time management and problem-solving abilitiesExperience in administration of a Human Resources Policies, developing policies and implementing policiesCore Skills: Conflict Resolution, Business Communications, Human Resource Management, Problem Solving abilitiesMust provide upon hire a Vulnerable Sector CheckCultural Knowledge and history of Indigenous People considered an assetIndigenous ancestry considered an asset, please self-identifyApplication Deadline: November 11th 2025Disclaimer: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
