The Opportunity

The Senior Financial Analyst - Financial Reporting will play a pivotal role in preparing and drafting the Management's Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) sections for our financial filings. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of US GAAP accounting principles and financial reporting, alongside the ability to communicate complex financial performance in a clear and strategic manner. You will collaborate with senior management and cross-functional teams to deliver accurate and comprehensive MD&A disclosures that align with regulatory requirements and best practices.
What You Will Do
- MD&A Preparation & Analysis:
Lead the preparation and review of the Management’s Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) section of quarterly and annual reports, ensuring the narrative accurately reflects the company’s financial position, results of operations, and cash flows. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including accounting, FP&A, tax, and legal, to gather data, ensure alignment, and interpret financial performance in the context of the broader business strategy. Provide clear, actionable insights into business performance trends, significant changes, and variances in financial statements to help management and external stakeholders understand key financial drivers. - Financial Reporting:
Assist in the preparation of external financial statements, including compliance with SEC filing requirements, ensuring consistency between the financial statements and MD&A. Work closely with auditors and internal stakeholders to support the external audit process and ensure financial reporting is accurate and in compliance with U.GAAP and regulatory requirements. - Technical Accounting:
Research and interpret complex accounting issues. Prepare technical memos and provide guidance on accounting treatments. Support the implementation of new accounting standards. - Regulatory Compliance:
Stay up to date with changes in SEC rules, GAAP, and other relevant financial regulations impacting financial reporting and MD&A. Ensure adherence to all internal controls and corporate governance policies related to financial reporting. Participate in cross-functional projects and special initiatives as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
• University degree in Business, Commerce or related field
• 8+ years of accounting experience within the energy sector, preferably in a midstream context.
• Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
Preferred Qualifications
• Working knowledge and experience in Workiva or other financial reporting applications
• Progressive experience at a public company in the North American energy sector
• Leadership experience managing teams in a high change environment
• Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrates the ability to make decisions and recommendations within established accounting procedures
• Self-motivated with a strong analytical skill set willing to learn and tackle new challenges on an ongoing basis
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information as well as handle deviations from standard methods
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines with multiple priorities
• Proven team player with the ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
