Our grief support therapists provide anticipatory and bereavement counseling to children, teens, adults, and families including assessing grief support needs, facilitating short-term individual counseling, developing and reviewing treatment plans, and providing education. Therapists also facilitate support groups, provide crisis response to the community, and assist with implementing special memorial events.

Job Duties/Knowledge:
  1. Implements and facilitates grief support programs for patients, families, and adults in person and/or virtually.
  2. Performs intake assessments to determine eligibility for bereavement support.
  3. Provides short-term emotional and psychosocial support to assist with issues related to grief/loss and adjustment.
  4. Provides an average of 3-4 individual and/or family sessions per day.
  5. Develops care plan with client and executes culturally sensitive clinical interventions.
  6. Establishes therapeutic relationships and maintains healthy interpersonal boundaries with patients and families from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  7. Develops and facilitates support groups and/or holiday workshops.
  8. Participates in ongoing development, implementation, review, and evaluation of group curriculum.
  9. Completes accurate documentation utilizing DARP format with accuracy, timeliness, and in compliance with department policies.
  10. Provides education and workshops to the community on grief/loss in adults and children.
  11. Provides crisis response and education to schools, businesses, and faith communities.
  12. Assists with planning, developing, and implementing special events (Children’s Grief Awareness Day, National Children’s Memorial, Tree of Life, Family Retreat, Treasuring Families, etc.).
  13. Consults with the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team to assess grief support needs for patients and families.
  14. Educates staff, volunteers, schools, and community agencies regarding services provided by Treasure Coast Hospice.
  15. Works as a community liaison by promoting bereavement program in schools and other relevant settings.
  16. Maintains up-to-date records.
  17. Attends and supports grant funder site visits, providing data for grant proposal and reports.
  18. Assists with grant writing.
  19. Attends, supports, and promotes fundraising events.
  20. Maintains up-to-date knowledge on literature and research in bereavement.
  21. Demonstrates knowledge and commitment to the Hospice philosophy of care.
  22. Complies with Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) requirements to report any child and/or elder abuse/neglect.
  23. Attends agency and department meetings, trainings, and continuing education workshops.
Qualifications:
  1. Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited university or college in the field of counseling, social work, psychology, or related human service.
  2. At least 1 year of working with children, adults, and families in a mental health setting, preferred.
  3. Licensed or licensed eligible, preferred.
  4. A valid Florida driver’s license and auto liability insurance is required.
  5. An ability to work in a team environment.
