**Who We Are**:
**Hope and Area Transition Society**was established in 1994. At that time, the intent of the Agency was to offer a haven for women and children fleeing domestic violence. Our Transition House opened in a permanent location in 1995 and was officially named the Jean Scott Transition House. Jean Scott was a trailblazer for women’s equality and was instrumental in the creation of our Transition House. The Transition House is the cornerstone of the agency.

Domestic Violence

Substance Use

Youth and Family

Homelessness

As a result of the growth and development of the agency, Hope and Area Transition Society is the largest non-profit in the Fraser-East.

**The Job**:
The **Adult Substance Use Worker **position provides alcohol and drug counseling services through the Outpatient Clinic, which is targeted toward Adults and Youth, as required.

Services are offered primarily to residents in the Hope and surrounding area including Laidlaw, Sunshine Valley, and Boston Bar, including the First Nation Communities within the locale and include prevention and intervention services as required.

Prevention and intervention services include one-on-one meetings, family counseling, and/or group presentation.

**Job Requirements**:

- Upon intake substance use worker in conjunction with the client develops and implements counseling plan that meets the client’s goals and objectives.
- Counseling approaches must include the harm reduction model, bio-psycho-social-spiritual model and/or traditional aboriginal techniques.
- Provides follow up support to clients after the end of therapy treatment.
- Monitors and evaluates clients functioning and interaction with family and friends and in the community and advises other professionals involved with client’s case where further evaluation or more intensive treatment is required.
- Maintains knowledge of community resources and refers clients accordingly.
- As needed, formulates and facilitates support groups in program areas for clients and/or their families.
- Provides consultation to those working with client cases such as social workers, probation officers, and other organization staff and professionals.
- Keeps thorough confidential and complete clinical records on client’s behavior, nature and type of treatment and progress.
- Participates in staff training sessions and public education forums, seminars and conferences relevant to specific program areas. May engage in prevention activities involving networking, consultation, public relations, etc.
- A bachelor’s degree in Social Work or an Undergraduate Degree with specific preparation in Substance Abuse Counseling, and/or a related field, or the equivalent education and experience.
- At least one year’s relevant work experience is typically required. Direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs and related provincial and community support services
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to identify trends, establish benchmarks, and provide credible analyses and business recommendations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant formal counseling and assessment techniques (Harm Reduction Approach).
- Strong organizational and time management skills with an attention to detail
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead projects and work with diverse individuals to identify issues, design solutions, and evaluate results
- Knowledge of community resources in the Hope and surrounding area, including the Fraser Valley, desired
- Valid BC driver’s license required
- Able to obtain a Criminal Record check with vulnerable populations required
