We offer a hybrid work model, promote flexibility, collegiality, collaboration and mentorship in both a virtual and in-person setting. You will be responsible for various clerking tasks as well as the day-to-day file management.Aviva Trial Lawyers is located across Canada with five offices in Ontario alone: Toronto, Markham, Oakville, Ottawa, and London.Please contact us if you are interested in a career that offers rewarding work, competitive compensation and benefits, a supportive team, as well as professional growth opportunities in a flexible, hybrid work environment.What You'll DoPreparation and drafting of correspondence and legal documents (statements of defence, motion records, affidavit of documents, affidavits, pre-trial/mediation memos, cost outlines, bill of costs, subpoenas, summons to witness, consent and dismissal orders, document briefs; ensuring all appropriate documents and forms are filed with the court in accordance with the Civil Procedure RulesCompilation of books of authorities/factumsPreparing and following up with requests for productions and undertakingsSummarizing discovery notes, transcripts, economic loss and medical reportsArranging investigations/surveillance, including preparing various instruction letters to investigatorsArranging independent medical examinations, including drafting and preparing the medical briefsKeeping lawyer's calendar updated; and updating internal databaseMaintaining file organizationBooking travel; including flights, cars and hotels as neededEnsure integrity of information in Ghost Practice applicationsLiaise between counsel, external parties, and claims operationsWhat You'll BringMinimum of 3+ years of legal assistant and law clerk experience in an insurance defence or personal injury litigation environmentExcellent computer skills including experience with MS Word and OutlookProficient in the Civil Procedure Rules and Court formsCustomer-service oriented with superb communication skillsExcellent organizational skillsAttention to detail with a desire to take initiativeAble to work independently with minimal direction and as part of a teamMature work ethic and good sense of humourWhat You’ll GetPlease note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.Compelling rewards package including base compensation, eligibility for annual bonus, retirement savings, share plan, health benefits, personal wellness, and volunteer opportunities.Outstanding Career Development opportunities.We’ll support your professional development education.Competitive vacation package with the option to purchase 5 extra days off per yearEmployee driven programs focused on gender, LGBTQ+, origins, diversity and inclusionCorporate wellness programs to support our employees’ physical and mental healthHybrid flexible work modelPlease note that we may use AI tools to help us through the recruitment process.
