In addition to full-stack development and expertise across multiple GIS applications and geodatabases, this role requires strong business analysis and project scoping skills. The ideal candidate can engage with customers from various geographies, translate their business requirements into technical specifications and functional designs, and provide accurate, high-level project estimates.Work Option: RemoteLocation: CanadaEmployment Type: Permanent Full Time (candidate must be authorized to work for any employer in Canada or must be a Canadian citizen.)Key responsibilities:Business analysis and project scopingCustomer requirements gathering: Work directly with customers across various international geographies to identify, analyze, and document their business needs and project objectives.Requirements translation : Transform high-level business goals into detailed functional and technical design documents, defining project scope and technical approach for the development and GIS teams.High-level estimation: Provide accurate, high-level estimates for project scope, timelines, and budgets, including resource allocation for both onshore and offshore teams.Project documentation: Prepare clear, concise, and detailed documentation, including Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), Functional Requirements Specifications (FRS), and design documents.Project leadership and managementGlobal project delivery: Oversee the successful, end-to-end delivery of complex geospatial projects, ensuring all deliverables meet quality standards and customer expectations.Onshore-offshore coordination: Effectively manage and coordinate tasks across globally distributed onshore and offshore teams, ensuring smooth communication and efficient delivery within an onshore-offshore model.Stakeholder communication: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, presenting project updates, technical findings, and high-quality deliverables.Mentorship and guidance: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to both onshore and offshore GIS analysts and full-stack developers.Full-stack application and system developmentApplication development: Lead the design, development, and deployment of interactive, web-based GIS applications using modern full-stack frameworks (e.g., React, Node.js, Python/Django).Backend services: Develop robust backend services and APIs that connect front-end applications with various geospatial data sources and databases.System administration: Administer and troubleshoot GIS software and infrastructure, including the Esri ArcGIS suite (Pro, Enterprise, Online) and open-source tools (QGIS).Data migration and managementMigration strategy: Develop comprehensive data migration strategies, including plans for data extraction, cleansing, transformation, and loading (ETL) from legacy systems into new environments.Data quality assurance: Ensure data integrity throughout the migration process, using tools and techniques to profile, cleanse, and validate spatial and non-spatial data.ETL workflow development: Design, build, and optimize ETL workflows using tools such as FME, ArcGIS Data Interoperability, or Python scripting to facilitate data transformation and migration.Spatial database management: Architect and manage multiple enterprise-level geodatabases (e.g., PostGIS, Oracle Spatial, Microsoft SQL Server), ensuring data integrity, security, and performance.System integration: Coordinate with technical teams to ensure seamless integration of migrated data with new applications and services, addressing challenges related to data compatibility and standardization.RequirementsEducation and experience:A bachelor's or master's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.8+ years of experience in GIS, with at least 3 years in a project leadership role involving global customers.Demonstrated experience with the full software development lifecycle in a global onshore-offshore model.Technical skillsGIS expertise: Expert-level proficiency with ArcGIS and QGIS; deep experience with multiple spatial databases (PostGIS, SQL Server, Oracle Spatial).Other tools: Proficiency with version control (Git), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and familiarity with containerization (Docker).Superior communication and business acumen: Excellent client-facing skills with the ability to understand and articulate business value.Project management: Exceptional organizational, planning, and estimation skills for successful project delivery in a global setting.Leadership and mentorship: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate globally distributed teams.We believe that our people are our strength.
