Field Risk Engineers are responsible for working with clients to identify and mitigate risks to their business such as fire, flood, windstorm, equipment breakdown etc.A Day in the LifeLooking for variety and a challenge? Property loss prevention surveys range in size and scope. One day you may be looking at a metal working facility, the next, a university campus. The key to success isn’t about being the expert in every occupancy, it’s about building trust and cross-functional relationships with stakeholders through effective communication. After the survey is complete, it’s time to tap into your strong analytical skills. Utilizing internal and external guidelines, leading edge tools and methodologies you develop loss prevention solutions to any identified hazards. Need that occupancy expertise after all? We have a Technical Integration Group as well as a vast team with years of experience to provide training, mentorship, and collaboration.How you will create an impactWhat you’ll need to succeedBachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or MathematicsMinimum one (1) year of highly protected risk, specialized industry and/or boiler and machinery field experienceFamiliarity with commercial occupanciesStrong communicator (both oral and written)Position is expected to travel and attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sitesAdditional requirementsTravel (~25% overnight) to conduct property loss prevention surveys at commercial facilitiesDetermine building construction and assess the impact of plastics on constructionAnalyze water supplies and sprinkler system demands to determine water supply and sprinkler system adequacyIdentify occupancy hazards and assess the adequacy of their protection featuresIdentify and assess the impact of external exposures on a facilityDetermine fire and natural catastrophe loss estimates for a facilityConduct consultative visits at customer facilitiesConduct plan reviewsWitness fire protection equipment testingDocument survey results in a data-driven report-writing applicationMentor and train lesser experienced staffStrengths for the position:Soft Skills:Highly motivated and able to work without close supervision.Ability to make decisions with and without established guidelines and provide technical support to underwriters and clients.Ability to work closely with various Account Teams including Account Engineers and UnderwritersAbility to complete assignments on time.Hard Skills:Professional Engineer or Certified Fire Protection Specialist designation (desired but not required).Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instrumentsAbility to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materialsPossess at least one year of driving experience with a valid U.S. driver’s licenseAdditional considerations:Ability to perform physical activities required for the position (standing and walking 8-10 hours a day, safely work at heights)Ability to understand safety training specific to workplace and construction hazardsAbility to safely use ladders, scaffolds, lifts and other access equipmentAbility to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbsAbility to perform work outdoorsAbility to wear safety equipment required for the position (hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection)Ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locationsAbility to type at a computer for several hours a dayAbility to drive and safely operate a motor vehicleReady to step up to new challenges?We would love to hear from you.AIG Canada is proud to be named one of Greater Toronto's Top Employers for the seventh year in a row.
