Apprentice - Mechanical Design Engineer

As a senior mechanical Engineer, Gamma Technologies, the Engineering Specialist will play a pivotal role within our Engineering team, reporting directly to the Manager, Production Irradiator (PI) - Mechanical. Your primary focus will be overseeing the entire lifecycle of Industrial Irradiator projects, from initial concept to final commissioning. Working closely with our team, you will contribute your expertise to ensure the successful design and installation of these critical systems, making a tangible impact on our company's growth and success.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the design, manufacturing, and installation processes for Industrial Irradiators.
  2. Provide technical guidance and oversight to designers, engineers, technologists, and suppliers.
  3. Maintain project timelines and ensure the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
  4. Engage in approximately 60-90 days/year of international travel to customer sites for installations and on-site supervision.

Qualifications:

  1. A Mechanical Engineering degree with professional certification (PEng) or the ability to obtain certification.
  2. A minimum of 8-10 years of hands-on industrial experience encompassing mechanical expertise and a solid understanding of electrical, controls, and process engineering.
  3. Proficiency in Solidworks or equivalent software for design and modeling.
  4. Proven project management skills honed through practical experience.
  5. A robust background in mechanical design, showcasing innovative solutions and attention to detail.
  6. Exceptional mechanical troubleshooting abilities, able to swiftly diagnose and resolve complex issues to ensure seamless project execution.

Skills and Competencies:

  1. Self-motivation coupled with demonstrated leadership skills to inspire and guide teams towards success.
  2. A minimum of 5 years' experience managing large-scale projects exceeding $500k.
  3. Excellent decision-making abilities, capable of making informed choices under pressure.
  4. Effective communication skills, including strong presentation abilities.
  5. Over 5 years of experience in customer interface roles, fostering strong client relationships.
  6. Proficiency in technical writing, with a track record of creating comprehensive technical reports, proposals, and project documentation.
  7. Ability to organize, delegate tasks, and oversee a job site with multiple contractors.
  8. Expertise in planning, scheduling, executing, and delivering both internal and external projects.
  9. Competency in project estimating to accurately assess resource requirements and project costs.
  10. Strong time management skills, adept at prioritizing tasks and maintaining focus.
  11. Experience in preparing and distributing reports to various stakeholders.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Training Requirement: Completion of all mandatory training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker.
  2. International Travel Capability: Ability to travel internationally as needed for project installations and supervision.
  3. Background Verification: Background verification, including FBI fingerprinting, as part of the screening process.
