As an Intermediate Engineer, Field Engineering with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group of experts. Reporting to the Team Lead, Field Engineering, this position will provide technical direction and design input to operations to facilitate maintenance activities on equipment or process piping and support the safe operation and regulatory compliance of Trans Mountain's pipeline system. This role will also manage capital projects which are focused on ensuring the integrity of Trans Mountain's pipeline and all related facilities, to maintain public safety and protection of the environment.


The preferred location of this position is in Edmonton, AB but candidates interested in being in Burnaby, BC, will also be considered.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide project engineering and management services including managing 3rd party engineering firms; project scoping; preparing AFE’s; drawing/design review, permitting, job hazard analysis, cost and schedule tracking, construction liaison, commissioning, and start-up support.
  • Develop and execute operations or sustaining capital projects with multiple project stakeholders.
  • Prepare project specifications or scopes of work, cost estimates, tender or bid documents & analysis, bid awards budgets, schedules and execution plans.
  • Coordinates with other regions, technical services, operations and engineering departments to develop and define sustaining capital and operations projects.
  • Coordinates efforts to assure facility and pipeline modification designs meet project and company objectives.
  • Advises management on engineering technical questions and issues.
  • Provides engineering and technical support to Operations.
  • Forecast and evaluates issues or events that may constitute an increase or decrease in project quality, scope, cost or schedule.
  • Manage and/or coordinate project activities that are in compliance with the final scope and ensure the safety, quality, technical requirements, value and schedule of project.
  • Prepares detailed engineering job plans and job hazard assessments in consultation with operations and other departments to allow maintenance crews to work safely and efficiently on all maintenance and shutdown related jobs.
  • Contribute to on-going Trans Mountain wide integrated safety and loss management system (ISLMS) development and implementation to ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualification and Professional Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Chemical).
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in any jurisdiction in Canada.
  • 3 to 5 years Engineering experience in a related field.
  • Pipeline engineering and project management experience preferred, managing multiple projects.
  • Experience working in an operating environment.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Project management experience including experience managing projects up to $1M.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse group of technical personnel.
  • Strong communication and ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Other Requirements and Information:

  • The position can be based in Edmonton, AB or Burnaby, BC.
  • Travel to work sites is required (25 to 40%).
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license or equivalent is required.
