Edmonton, Canada ATB Full time

At ATB, we exist to make it possible for our clients, team members, and communities. Our purpose is more than aspirational. It's a real commitment we live every day through our values.

Life at ATB is about more than work. In fact, we’re consistently recognized as one of the best places to work thanks to our high-care, high-performance culture, upheld by the three commitments we make to our team members:

  1. Impact in action: No matter where you are in the organization, you're empowered to make an impact in the lives of our clients and communities.
  2. Thrive together: We want you—the unique, authentic you—to feel safe and celebrated at work. We're on a continuous journey to build the most flexible and inclusive programs.
  3. Ready for tomorrow: We want to enable your success through interesting and challenging work, performance enablement, and learning and development.
About the role

As ATB's new CMHC Financing Specialist, you will be responsible for underwriting, administering, and funding CMHC insured loans. This includes direct contact with CMHC underwriters and application of the Certificate of Insurance on behalf of ATB. You will be part of the ATB Commercial Real Estate Team and will be supporting directors and relationship managers with their CMHC book of business. Success in this role requires a firm grasp of the CMHC’s insurance products, particularly the MLI Select Program, and strong financial analysis skills.

Accountabilities
  • Collaborate with relationship managers and directors to oversee CMHC insured loan origination, including the Certificate of Insurance and the application for credit.
  • Completion of CMHC annual reviews, amendments, and new money requests.
  • Perform complex financial statement analysis to calculate financial covenants and borrowing limits.
  • Assess risk and independently determine appropriate financial structures.
  • Analyze complex credit applications, identifying potential risks and mitigating factors.
  • Interpret and apply complex underwriting guidelines, policies, and regulatory requirements within the context of CMHC-insured lending.
  • Review draw requests, assist with loan funding and administration in accordance with CMHC Approved Lender handbook and ATB’s internal policies.
  • Submit pricing approval requests to appropriate decision level authority, fee collection, etc.
  • Proactively manage risk through continuous account monitoring to identify and act upon any deterioration of account or portfolio risk. This includes ongoing monitoring of industry reports as well as interim and year-end financial information/statements.
  • Assist the Sales Teams with improving efficiencies and profitability of the business unit.
  • Form and maintain relationships with ATB’s contacts at CMHC.
Skills, experience & requirements
  • Preference for degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or equivalent with 3-6 years relevant experience.
  • Experience with CMHC products, procedures, and processes.
  • Experience in conventional real estate construction financing and term out loans.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional financial analysis skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn.
  • Proven ability to produce effective results both independently with minimal supervision and in a team setting.
  • Enthusiastic team player with a proven record of success who wants to be part of a team dedicated to growth and continuous improvement.
  • An MBA, CFA or CPA designation completed or in progress is an asset.

Don’t meet all the requirements on the list? A resume only goes so far in expressing who you are and the unique perspectives you bring. If you believe your skills and experience align with the role—but you might not check all the boxes—we want to hear from you. We encourage candidates from all work backgrounds, equity-seeking communities, and experience levels to apply. If you’re seeking a career where your drive, perspective, and growth are celebrated, we want to hear from you.

We’re dedicated to building a workforce reflective of those within our communities, and a culture where our team members are equipped with what they need to succeed—their way. Part of creating an inclusive workplace is recognizing our role in advancing Truth and Reconciliation. We are committed to meeting and exceeding the standards set out in the program created by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business.

What happens next? If you are shortlisted, you’ll hear from us after the posting closes. Check out our page to learn more about our hiring process. If you need any accommodations throughout this process, please let us know.
