Position Overview

As the new CMHC Financing Specialist at ATB Financial, you will take charge of underwriting, managing, and facilitating CMHC insured loans. This role involves direct interaction with CMHC underwriters and the application of the Certificate of Insurance on behalf of ATB. You will collaborate with the ATB Commercial Real Estate Team, providing support to directors and relationship managers in managing their CMHC portfolio. To excel in this position, a solid understanding of CMHC's insurance offerings, particularly the MLI Select Program, along with strong financial analysis capabilities, is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with relationship managers and directors to oversee the origination of CMHC insured loans, including the Certificate of Insurance and credit applications.
  • Conduct annual reviews, amendments, and new funding requests for CMHC.
  • Perform detailed financial statement analyses to assess financial covenants and borrowing capacities.
  • Evaluate risks and independently determine suitable financial structures.
  • Analyze intricate credit applications, identifying potential risks and mitigating factors.
  • Interpret and apply complex underwriting guidelines, policies, and regulatory requirements in the context of CMHC-insured lending.
  • Review draw requests and assist with loan funding and administration in line with CMHC Approved Lender guidelines and ATB's internal policies.
  • Submit pricing approval requests to the appropriate decision-making authority.
  • Proactively manage risk through ongoing account monitoring to detect and address any deterioration in account or portfolio risk.
  • Support Sales Teams in enhancing the efficiency and profitability of the business unit.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with ATB's contacts at CMHC.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, along with 3-6 years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with CMHC products, procedures, and processes.
  • Experience in conventional real estate construction financing and term loans.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional financial analysis skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a strong desire to learn.
  • Proven ability to achieve effective results both independently and collaboratively.
  • A collaborative team player with a track record of success, dedicated to growth and continuous improvement.
  • An MBA, CFA, or CPA designation is a plus.
