Job Description:
The Retail Advice & Solutions (RA&S) Expense Management team is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial information to enable effective management decision-making, working collaboratively with our business partners in Retail Advice & Solutions, other Canadian Business Units and Canadian and Corporate Finance.
The Senior Financial Analyst, a key member of the RA&S Expense Management team, will be responsible for allocating expenses by product group for operating expenses, providing analysis to senior management with insight on gain/gap drivers, calculating and analyzing unit costs and leading the annual plan and budget process from a gain/gap perspective for both insurance and wealth.
Reporting to the Director, Expense Management and working closely with all members of the RA&S Expense Management team, this position requires a proactive, self-motivated and detail-oriented individual with excellent analytical, technical and prioritization skills. It is also important for this individual to work closely with partners across the RA&S organization (specifically valuation actuaries), as well as other key business units (e.g. Canadian Finance, Canadian Operations, Client Experience Office (CXO), Agile Portfolio Management (APM), etc).
What will you do?
- Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with key business partners with the goal of understanding the underlying business impact.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly/ad hoc gain/gap, unit cost and commission related deliverables, including Unit Cost Calculators, Commission Trend report, Quarterly Business Review (QBR), Sales Incentive Plan (SIP) reasonability and modelling.
- Perform monthly/quarterly/ad hoc analysis of results to support variance analysis and/or key driver analysis.
- Collaborate with actuarial FP&A team on ad-hoc analysis of Individual Insurance and Wealth business performance to provide input to senior management.
- Lead all gain/gap components of the annual planning cycle (strategic/business planning/budget) as well as quarterly forecasts.
- Lead the RA&S Expense Study (every 2 – 3 years).
- Participate in and support expense deep dives, as needed.
- Mentor and coach staff to encourage development and support transfer of knowledge.
- Perform various analyses and financial modelling as assigned.
What do you need to succeed?
- 5-7 years of analytical and modelling experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to accuracy and details.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to explain complex concepts to audiences of different levels of understanding.
- Strong ability to manage multiple deliverables while driving desired results.
- Proven ability to build and maintain successful relationships with business partners.
- Proven flexibility, adaptability, and creativity to meet deadlines and manage priorities.
- Excellent PC skills (MS Excel, Oracle, SAP, Essbase/Hyperion, Tableau) including experience in building reports.
- Highly motivated with the ability to consistently seek out improvements to current processes.
Assets:
- Accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, CA) or enrolled in accounting designation program (CPA).
- Knowledge of Insurance services and products and related market segments.
- Expense and planning experience.
- Overtime will be required during peak periods (month-end, quarter-end, plan and budget).
