Relief/Casual - School & Community Support
1 week ago
There are no guaranteed hours with this position. It is a relief/on-call position, which means you are only called when needed.
The Chris Rose Therapy Centre for Autism provides services for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). With the support of parents and caregivers, we work to empower each individual to achieve their social, emotional, academic and vocational goals.
We are looking for 1-2 individuals who would be interested in relief/casual positions with the organization. Our day/extended program works with individuals up to 18 years of age, and our community inclusion program works with adults who are 19+, so you could be called and asked to work with any of those programs.
Educational Requirements:
- Applicants are required to have completed at least a 1-year post-secondary Certificate with at least 20 hours of child development experience. Examples include Teaching Assistant/Teachers Aide Certification, School and Community Support Certification, Human Services Certification, and Early Childhood Education Certification. This certificate must be in a related field due to the programs that we work within.
- Staff is required to have a valid Emergency First Aid - Community Care (or equivalent).
Job Requirements:
- Part of the position involves transporting the person you are working with to their activities, so a vehicle and valid British Columbia driver's license is necessary. We will reimburse for differences in insurance and mileage.
- Staff must be comfortable in the water as swim therapy is an integral part of the goals for many of those we work with at the Centre.
This is not a teaching position or a desk job -- our staff works directly with the individuals we serve, so this is a physical position not an administrative position. We will train the successful applicant in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training for the purposes of working with the Centre, and we will also cover the cost of a Criminal Records check for vulnerable youth/adults. The successful applicant is responsible for ensuring they have the appropriate first aid training upon hiring.
Duties:
- Responsible for the well-being of the individual in your care including behaviour management, self-care tasks, welfare, and safety. Administration of medication if required.
- Responsible for caring for programs which facilitate the child's social, emotional, physical, and vocational goals.
- Responsible to communicate with the supervisor, parents, caregivers, and other professionals.
- Responsible to document as per standards. May also be responsible for planning activities and documentation as per standards.
- Responsible for cleaning and tidying the work area.
- Responsible for the safe transportation of the person served.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills:
- Strong caregiving skills and a compassionate nature.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Experience working with individuals with autism is preferred.
The Centre is open from Monday through Friday. Applicants must be able to work between 8 AM and 5 PM on days scheduled. We are not open evenings or weekends.
The focus of this position is on our School-Based (5-12 years) and Extended Program (6–18 years), but there may be the option to work in our Community Inclusion Services for Adults with ASD (19 years and up) if you are looking for the possibility of more hours. All our positions involve working directly with individuals with ASD and may also involve following individual care plans and behaviour plans.
Job Type: Casual
Pay: From $24.34 per hour
Benefits:
- Casual dress.
Flexible language requirement:
- French not required.
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday.
Application question(s):
- Applicants are required to have completed at least a 1-year post-secondary Certificate with at least 20 hours of child development experience. What field is your certificate in?
