Reporting to the Executive Director, Salsa in Toronto Festival, and working alongside senior members of the IT Team, the successful candidate will support and join a dedicated team of special event professionals to help produce and execute the Salsa in Toronto Festival. In this role, the candidate will provide IT and web design and support for the event website and its social media platforms. The individual will gain direct hands-on experience in a positive and encouraging workplace and will acquire valuable career-related experience in STEM and ICT.

This is an 8 week term summer position ending no later than August 30th, 2024.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide support related to the design, development and evaluation of event website (salsaintoronto.com)
  • Help to monitor and evaluate website for quality of content, compliance with standards, use of proper metadata practices, flow, accessibility, navigability, etc.
  • Feature development, bug fixing, and optimization of our current web properties
  • Help to identify, recommend and implement corrective action as required
  • Assist in the design and development of web pages, graphics, multimedia, GUIs.
  • Provide assistance in the reporting of SEO/Social Media KPIs, help to set benchmarks and assist with strategic and tactical analysis
  • Assist in the maintenance of the content management system, updating website and social media platforms as needed
  • Work closely with the Digital Marketing team for uploading and editing content
  • Other duties as required

Required Skills

  • Strong web development skills in CSS, HTML, XML, and JavaScript
  • Data savvy: strong Excel skills, familiarity with web analytics (Google Analytics, etc.), social analytics and SEO suites with a strong command of both on-site and off-site SEO best practices
  • Experience leveraging social media platforms for SEO campaigns (content strategy, link baiting, social linking)
  • Superior attention to detail, good eye for usability and web design
  • Ability to work under the pressures of tight deadlines and multitask
  • Strong initiative and self-motivated with ability to work both independently and on a team
  • Fluent in the Spanish language is an asset
  • An enthusiastic, friendly attitude contributing to a friendly respectful workplace

Qualifications

  • Information Technology, Web Developer, or related Degree (or in progress) and or a minimum 1-year related experience
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2. Please note: Student and work visa status do not qualify.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment. Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
