Location: Calgary, Canada - Hybrid work schedule available 

We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will report to the Accounting Supervisor and will be responsible for participating in the financial reporting process and conducting financial analysis for local businesses. The Accountant will also be responsible for assisting internal and external auditors to finish financial statement audits, assisting internal/external tax preparers in filing tax returns, and assisting with tax audits.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform accounting functions related to oil and product agreements.
  • Prepare and check journal entries, and analyses, and make general ledger reconciliations. 
  • Participate in the month-end closing process and prepare a periodic (monthly) financial report. 
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Provides support to inside/outside tax preparers in filing federal/Provincial tax returns. 
  • Assists in tax audits.
  • Assists in preparing various federal/provincial tax returns.
  • Maintain company tax database.
  • Addresses all comments/questions raised by the Parent company Accounting and Finance team.
  • Assists in addressing department-related comments and financial questions raised.
  • Identifies improvements in financial reporting, accounting processes, and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 
  • Bilingual in Mandarin Chinese and English, specifically the ability to read and write.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience required, preferably in Commodities Trading. 
  • Canadian tax preparation experience is a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and US tax.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping processes.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the desire to develop and apply problem-solving skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Able to work independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Highly Proficient with SAP or other ER experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Be willing to work extra hours during month-end, quarter-end, and year-end periods.
