POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Manager, the Night Staff supports the work of Transitional Housing by ensuring the well-being of residents and the cleanliness and security of the building.

This position reports to: Program Manager
Employment status: 12 Months contract with a possibility of extension

Open to: Internal/External candidates

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Manager, the Night staff will:

  1. Ensure the security, safety, and well-being of the residents at Reception House.
  2. Welcome and prepare for new arrivals, both expected and unexpected.
  3. Provide basic orientation to new residents.
  4. Assist residents with day-to-day activities (i.e. making phone calls).
  5. Assist all residents in case of emergency.
  6. Ensure all residents, visitors, and volunteers respect the rules of the premises.
  7. Answer telephone calls, take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-business hours.
  8. Ensure the clean and orderly condition of the premises.
  9. Prepare residents for moving out.
  10. Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as property damage or unusual occurrences.
  11. Provide support to kitchen staff as needed.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma or equivalent, and at least one year of experience in a related field.
  2. Exceptional interpersonal skills, and a high degree of cross-cultural competence.
  3. Skilled at de-escalation, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  4. Demonstrates understanding of the newcomer experience.
  5. Ability to perform duties independently and with minimal supervision.
  6. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  7. Ability to work alone.
  8. Available to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
  9. Ability to function in a multidisciplinary, culturally diverse workplace.
  10. Current CPR/First Aid certification is required.
  11. Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French and other languages is an asset.
