This is an anticipatory Canada Summer Jobs position for students.
Part 1 – Identifying Data
Position title: Administrative Summer Student
Position: 35 HRS X WEEK, WEEKDAY and occasional weekend events
Compensation: $20.00 / hour (May-Sept, 16 weeks)
Closing Date: May 5, 2024
Part 2 – Summary of Position
The Administrative Summer Student, under the direction of the President, is responsible for administrative and technical support for the operations of the Yukon Federation of Labour, including filing, office work, event support, records management, and public engagement.
Part 3 – Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the President in various projects, training, events, and Federation of Labour matters, maintaining confidentiality and discretion in all interactions and tasks.
- Support day-to-day office operations, including filing, accounting, general administrative tasks, managing calendars, coordinating travel, and business errands.
- Manage inquiries through phone, email, and in-person interactions, prioritizing and redirecting messages as needed.
- Prepare, proofread, and update documents, spreadsheets, templates, and forms.
- Organize and maintain both electronic and paper filing systems for YFL records including research, data compilation, digitizing and listing archival records.
- Update and maintain the website and social media profiles, curate news articles and graphic design for promotional materials.
- Monitor media and Hansard for pertinent labour-related information in the Yukon.
- Assist in educational program preparation, scheduling, and execution.
- Handle payment tracking, receipt, and posting, as well as deposits.
- Ensure the office space is orderly and well-presented, including cleaning duties.
- Other tasks as assigned.

Part 6 – Qualifications and Competencies
We seek a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as an Administrative Summer Student. This is a full-time position for the summer months, funded by Canada Summer Jobs. Applicants must be 15 - 30 years of age at the start of employment and legally entitled to work in Yukon, and a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person for whom refugee protection has been conferred.
Qualifications:
- Self-motivated and able to work independently or with others.
- Strong organizational skills and research skills
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality, demonstrating sensitivity and tact in all interactions.
- Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with members, affiliates, executive members, and other external stakeholders.
- Experience in administration, finance, and digital campaign tools
- Political awareness and a deep commitment to workers' rights and the labour movement’s mission and values.
