Reporting to the Environment General Supervisor, you will be part of the Environment Department. You will foresee the water management of the site, uniting the hydrology, hydrogeology, and the water treatment process aspects. You will be responsible for planning the technical execution of studies and monitoring pertaining to hydrogeology, hydrology, and the water balance on site as well as being responsible for ensuring the performance and improvement of the water treatment processes on site, including system design, process optimization, monitoring, testing, analysis, and reporting. You will also ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

  • Provide hydrogeological, hydrological or water treatment expertise to the operation in order to optimize the water management strategy and ensure compliance to environmental standards;
  • Lead studies and monitoring aimed to better understand physical and geochemical processes relating to water management on site;
  • Update and apply water balance, water quality, and hydrogeological models to advise decision making on site;
  • Contribute to the life of mine water management strategy and planning;
  • Develop and ensure proper maintenance of databases relating to groundwater monitoring, water balance tracking, and key water quality indicators on site;
  • Advise and recommend to his/her supervisor changes that may contribute to the improvement of the mine operations;
  • Develop procedures and operating instructions for water treatment plants and verify that methods used by process operators are conform;
  • Technical follow-up in the field including site, open pit, and underground tours;
  • Work in collaboration with the Permitting group and external consultants on files and studies pertaining to permitting and regulatory processes;
  • Review, document and ensure the information provided is accurate;
  • Organize, lead, and participate in water management meetings and presentations to various stakeholders;
  • Develop and ensure adherence to sampling/monitoring procedures;
  • Apply the highest degree of health and safety on a daily basis, conforming with the company’s health and safety standards;
  • Respect the commitments of the company's sustainable development policy;
  • Respect the company's code of ethics;
  • Perform all other related duties as requested by the Environmental General Supervisor.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Bachelor's degree in any relevant field;
  • 5-7 years of work experience in hydrogeology, hydrology, water treatment, or water resources management;
  • Experience with GoldSim, Leapfrog, ArcGIS, FEFLOW and other modelling software is considered an asset;
  • Experience in the development on ArcGIS online database and field survey tool is considered an asset;
  • Mining experience is considered an asset, specifically underground and open pit water management;
  • Strong ability to apply scientific method, and think analytically and conceptually;
  • Background in Climate Change impacts analysis and time series interpretation is considered an asset;
  • Supervisory experience, along with good leadership skills;
  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.

Note that the official working language at Meliadine is English.

YOUR WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. A combination of tele-working with presence at our offices in either Val-d’Or, Rouyn-Noranda or Mirabel, QC. Occasional visits to site may also be required.
