The Quality Assurance Specialist is accountable for the administration and maintenance of the VSY quality management system. This includes ongoing assessment to ensure that it continues to meet the objectives of both the Seaspan Shipyards Quality Policy and Quality Management System manual and works to address identified deficiencies. This role reports to the Sr. Quality Assurance Representative.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Coordinates and maintains the quality management system within Vancouver Shipyards by monitoring, reporting, and administering actions which prevent the occurrence of non-conformities.
  • Assesses non-conformances and coordinates with Shipyard personnel to correct the process or amend system procedures to correct any non-conformity.
  • Assists in maintaining the quality management system in a manner consistent with the quality management system manual and communicates the requirements and procedures to all employees.
  • Leads internal audits and assists in external audits (e.g. ISO, customer, process, subcontractor, etc.).
  • Facilitates development of annual VSY audit plan.
  • Manages VSY Documented Information process by ensuring Procedures, Work Instructions and Forms as well as Quality Assurance documentation and adequately maintained.
  • Administers VSY Management of Change Process.
  • Participates in Quality continuous improvement projects.
  • Facilitates and participates in Quality process training across the organization.
  • As directed, provides coordinating support for Shipyards core processes.
  • Intelex Super User
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  • Post-secondary Diploma in Quality Management Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Internal auditing certification by recognized company such as BSI, Exemplar Global is preferred.
  • Experience with Intelex software an asset.
  • Shipbuilding or related trades experience is an asset.

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

  • Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 9001.
  • Knowledge of VSY Quality Assurance policies and procedures is an asset.
  • Written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations and work environments.

  • Ability to collaborate with teams and focus people’s energy and attention on bringing various priorities together to achieve set goals and objectives.
  • Technical, analytical, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates tact, diplomacy, and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Computer proficiency in standard Microsoft applications.
