Job Description:

Summary:

The person in this position will work on projects with a diverse team of engineers and scientists, completing water resources, civil engineering, and related technical assignments. Project work may include hydrologic analysis for rural and urban settings; hydraulic analysis and design related to rivers, streams, conveyances, dams, and other hydraulic structures; watershed management; impact assessments; natural channel design; and working with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials. Assignments may also include leading project teams with a variety of technical backgrounds and disciplines. The work or training may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments either in the field or in another Barr office.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. in civil, environmental, or related engineering fields with a focus on water resources
  • 5 years of water resources engineering consulting experience
  • Task management experience
  • Experience with precipitation and flooding data analysis; hydrologic analysis and modeling; open channel hydraulic analysis; hydraulic structures; bank stabilization and stream restoration; flood modelling and mapping; dam break analysis; dam and levee analysis and design
  • Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling approaches and software commonly used in the industry
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and GIS
  • Familiarity with budget, scope, and/or proposal development
  • Familiarity with water resources data collection methodologies
  • P.Eng. registration or eligibility for immediate registration with APEGA
  • Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Engineering and Environmental Science Canada Ltd., now or in the future
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.Sc. or PhD degree(s) in civil, environmental, or related engineering fields
  • 6+ years of water resources engineering consulting experience
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to manage multiple project deadlines, budgets, and scopes
  • Experience providing technical mentorship and guidance to junior staff on projects
  • Eligibility for registration with APEGS and EGBC
  • Familiarity with client management and business development
  • Experience with hydrologic modelling and 1D, 2D, and 3D hydraulic modelling software and water quality modelling
  • Experience with mine water management and using GoldSim for water balance modeling
  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling tools
  • Experience with climate change analyses and modelling
  • Experience with site development design and plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Construction observation, fieldwork, and surveying experience

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Calgary, Alberta, office.

NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting and moving equipment. Safety and other training will be provided. Drug screening and participating in a random drug screening program will be required to work for some clients.
