Our people, known as Greyshirts, are the cornerstone of our mission and success. We are committed to fostering an environment that embodies the principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEI&B)—inclusive of beliefs, cultural backgrounds, job experiences, thoughts, and ideas—across all aspects of our operations.

We are seeking a Director of Development. You are a passionate and seasoned fundraising professional with a strategic mindset and proven leadership abilities, possessing extensive experience in fundraising execution and strategy development. Reporting to the VP, Development and Communications, you will play a crucial role in building and sustaining relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders, launching fundraising initiatives, and securing sustainable funding to support TR Canada's mission.

The right person is a self-starter and a team player with excellent oral and written communication skills. Our culture requires individuals foolish enough to think they can change the world and competent enough to have a chance. This position can be hybrid or remote with some travel required.

Duties:

  • Establish and achieve annual fundraising targets and KPIs that align with TR Canada’s strategic goals.
  • Develop and oversee the budget for the Development Department.
  • Monitor and evaluate fundraising activities, track progress against goals, and generate reports for stakeholders.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to align development strategies with organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to identify funding opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Manage and oversee all aspects of the development functions, including donor communications and database management.
  • Grow, lead, mentor, and inspire the development team—both staff and volunteers.
  • Stay informed about trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements in philanthropy and nonprofit management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Background

  • Bachelor’s degree (in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field), advanced degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in fundraising, development, or philanthropy roles.
  • Proven track record of leading comprehensive development strategy development and execution.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Strong proficiency in strategic planning, project management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
  • Professional experience with CRM and Asana Project Management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Passion for the mission and values of TR Canada.

Job Type:

  • Salary range: $90,000 to $105,000

Special Requirements:

  • Military veterans strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Access to a stable internet connection for hybrid work environment.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Occasional travel, including overnight travel across North America.
  • Must be comfortable working in austere conditions when required.
  • Fluency in Canada’s Official Languages an asset.
