The Program Coordinator position is based at the Waterloo campus. The incumbent will work with the Manager, Co-Curricular Learning Support to design, implement and maintain academic support programs for students preparing for and/or completing mathematics, statistics, and other quantitative-based courses. The Program Coordinator will create assessment tools to identify specific areas of concern for students, develop programming, conduct workshops, and coordinate a tutoring/mentoring program for students requiring a review of prerequisite material.

AccountabilitiesMathematics and Statistics Learning Support
  • Provides mathematics and statistics content support to students individually and in small groups, at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Supports students in developing professional work habits; pedagogical objectives include improving problem-solving skills, time management, and effective learning strategies.
  • Schedules and oversees peer-led support sessions, facilitated by student employees.
  • Designs and conducts workshops to strengthen student knowledge of key foundational math skills.
  • Coordinates a peer mentoring program for 100-level mathematics courses.
  • Conducts pre-exam reviews of course materials in consultation with course instructors as required.
Contextualized and Curricular Learning Support
  • Identifies courses that would benefit from additional learning supports.
  • Researches and recommends contextualized learning support programs or resources that could improve student success.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and faculty to design and implement approved curricular learning support programs.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of a peer tutor connection program.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Ensures consistency in program delivery of learning support services.
  • Maintains accurate attendance records for all programming and provides participation reports to the manager.
  • Makes hiring recommendations to the manager; aids in the training, scheduling, and evaluation of student employees.
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of initiatives for enhancing student success.
  • Evaluates texts, software, and other resources for student use.
  • Develops outreach opportunities to promote co-curricular learning support programs.
  • Liaises with other university units to remain current on academic policies and resources.
  • Contributes to special projects related to the development of the co-curricular learning support unit.
Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in Statistics or Mathematics (with a concentration in statistics) and a Bachelor of Education degree, OR a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics or Mathematics (with a concentration in statistics) and a Master’s of Education.
  • A minimum of 4 years of work-related experience, including practical experience in post-secondary education.
  • Knowledge of the secondary level mathematics and science curriculum, as well as associated introductory level university courses.
  • Pedagogical skill in optimizing the operation of formal mathematics support programs.
  • Understanding of research and trends related to transition, retention, and student success.
  • Experience developing interactive learning materials and curricular workshops.
  • Experience delivering presentations and facilitating workshops to various group sizes.
  • Experience assisting students in applying strategies to course content.
  • Experience coordinating logistics involving multiple inputs and resources.
  • Experience hiring, training, and supervising student employees.
  • Experience using statistical software (R, SPSS, Stata) and mathematics preparation software.
  • Experience with course management systems (D2L recommended).
  • Demonstrated research skills to gather complex information.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Sensitivity to issues of equity, diversity, inclusion, and access in a post-secondary environment.
  • Demonstrated team skills with an ability to work independently.
  • Mental health training is an asset.
Hours of Work

This is a full-time, continuing position. Normal hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and/or weekend work required.

Compensation

Level: E

Rate of Pay: $41.09 to $43.44 per hour with an annual step progression up to $46.96 per hour.
