Do you have strong communication skills, and experience in human/social services and conflict resolution? The Mustard Seed is seeking a Client Support Worker to join our team in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

The Mustard Seed is committed to helping people who are homeless transition toward and maintain sustainableandhealthylifestyles. The Client Support Worker at The Mustard Seed provides a safe and supportive environment to all residents. Reporting to the Housing manager, the Client Support Worker is responsible to ensure the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of the residents in our Client Support Worker program and work collaboratively with their support systems to encourage resident independence, community engagement and housing stability.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Connect with a specified group of residents living in supportive housing on an on-going basis to assist in building the skills of daily living
  • Support the working relationship between the resident and their support network
  • Refer the resident back to their Case managers whenever possible/necessary and ensure there are clear lines of communication with outside organizations who serve the residents
  • Refer residents to The Mustard Seed services and collaborating with those services
  • Provide information about community supports
  • Documenting resident interactions, resident referrals, progress and any change in behaviour
  • Complete 6-month reassessments and Resident Care Plans when necessary
  • Complete incident reports and daily logs in a timely manner
  • Welcome and support volunteers when necessary
  • Cover Front Desk for patrols and breaks
  • Host community events
  • Complete incident reports as required, and adhere to all Health & Safety and HR policies and procedures
  • Engage in intentional interaction with residents to build rapport and foster community
  • Other duties may be assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Diploma or an undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with marginalized individuals
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within a cross-functional team
  • The ability to interact with a variety of individuals
  • Strong administrative and computer skills
  • Conflict resolution skills and ability to manage residents in crisis situations
  • A passion to be part of ending homelessness in Alberta
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Understand that some Mustard Seed clients may have personal issues that results in them using inappropriate language that could be considered angry, argumentative, discriminatory, and demeaning
  • Complete required training to be fully equipped to work with the guests and clients of the organization; know how to de-escalate a situation while remaining calm and professional
  • Lifting, standing, walking, are required as part of this role
  • Moderate to high mental effort required to successfully accomplish the essential job functions such as providing information, resolving discrepancies, responding to highly intense situations
