Brighton, Canada Itad Ltd Full time

Non-Executive Director

At Itad, we believe in the power of evidence to build a better world for all. Our award-winning work in monitoring, evaluation and learning harnesses innovation and new technology. Through our expert, agile team and global partnerships, we provide strategic insights to deliver better results for people and the planet. We want to be a force for the future good and are continually striving to be fairer, greener, more inclusive and more diverse in our work.

We are a leading international development consultancy with a 40-year track record of providing our clients with the information and insight they need to make development work smarter, produce better results and improve people’s lives. We offer advice to governments, foundations, multilateral agencies, development finance institutions, the private sector and NGOs on how to maximise the impact of their investments. Our knowledge and expertise are grouped around four Practice areas: Inclusive Growth and Climate Change, Fragile and Conflict-Affected Settings, Human Development and Governance and Institutional Strengthening.

As we move into the 40th year of business, we are reformulating our vision and have ambitious plans to continue to strengthen our profile and impact, build our service offering, and broaden our client base.

Itad’s board provides collective strategic leadership and challenge on strategy, corporate issues and risks. It sets the company’s strategic aims, ensures that the necessary financial resources are in place for the company to meet its objectives, and reviews management performance. Membership currently comprises of Itad’s partners and two non-executive directors (NEDs), the Chair and Investor Director.

We are seeking one new non-executive director to join our board and provide fresh insights across the full range of board leadership, governance and strategic direction.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Helping to set the company’s strategic direction, with a particular focus on: (i) identifying key international development trends and implications for Itad’s clients and markets; (ii) reviewing Itad’s market position and approach to building its client base, influence and impact.
  • Scrutinising the company’s management information to ensure performance and delivery of the company’s strategy and that key objectives are ambitious and achievable.
  • Contributing effectively to board meetings – held quarterly and ad hoc as required.

Requirements for the role

The successful candidate will have:

  • Interest in, and passion for, international development and the role of evidence in making international development more effective.
  • Proven senior leadership experience in an international development organisation (funder, consultancy or NGO), including board-level experience as an executive or non-executive.
  • In-depth knowledge of priority service areas for Itad, including strategy or monitoring, evaluation and learning.
  • Extensive experience with one of Itad’s key client groups: HMG or other bilateral donors, multilateral agencies, or philanthropic foundations.
  • Strong communication skills, including an ability to offer challenge in a constructive, straightforward and open manner.

The board and leadership are committed to building diversity and inclusion - both internally and through our ways of working. We value diversity of experience, opinions and lived experiences in Itad’s decision-making and believe this will strengthen our strategic direction and effectiveness. So we particularly welcome candidates who identify as female, minority ethnic group or from the Global South. We would also like to discuss with interested candidates whether the role could include the provision of oversight and advice on Itad’s diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Although the time commitment required may vary depending on your expertise and availability, we would anticipate around 12 - 15 days per year would be the minimum required.

If you would like an initial exploratory discussion, please submit your CV with a brief cover letter outlining why you feel Itad represents a good match for your experience and interests.

At Itad, we are committed to actively promoting diversity, equality and inclusion to empower people both within our organisation and through our work. We know that employees with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences make us a more effective and innovative company and we therefore welcome and encourage applications from interested candidates regardless of age, sex, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, race, religion, or belief.
