Edmonton, Canada Peace Hills Insurance Full time

Peace Hills is looking to hire a Technical Architect on a permanent full-time basis. This role will be instrumental in generating the technical specifications on internal software projects for several development initiatives and provide additional help with software development as required. Based out of our Edmonton office and reporting to the Software Development Manager, this role is ideal for a strong developer who has started down the architecture path.

Please note that there is an in-person requirement for this role. The successful candidate must be able to work from our Edmonton location upon hire.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Creation and maintenance of Architectural documentation, including:

  1. Current architecture including significant systems, minor systems, APIs, databases, 3rd party interactions and technologies used
  2. Current deployment environments, including production and staging
  3. Current system interactions, including data transfer formats, security accounts and key permissions

Support Upcoming Projects and Initiatives by:

  1. Generating technical requirements
  2. Developing prototypes and initial frameworks as required
  3. Taking on development tasks where required
  4. Working with the development teams to ensure the architecture is understood

General Duties

  1. Documenting best practices and creating development resources that can be used/reused by other developers
  2. Working closely with our Project Management Team to ensure the alignment of plans with what is being delivered
  3. Providing recommendations for the strategic architectural direction
  4. Must complete required Guidewire certifications within a reasonable amount of time after hire
Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree/Technical Diploma in Computer Science or Engineering is required.
  2. At least 1-2 years of working as the technical architect/technical lead on projects with 6 or more developers on the team is required.
  3. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Extensive knowledge and experience with service-based architectures.
  5. Extensive understanding of the attributes and processes for current application development methodologies.
  6. Extensive experience with various architectural modeling techniques.
  7. Extensive experience with OFSI regulations related to technology, data and security.
  8. Extensive experience with industry regulations such as PCI.
  9. Detailed understanding of relational database management systems and other data structures.
  10. Strong interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation.
  11. Excellent analytical and technical skills.
  12. Ability to translate business needs into architecture requirements.
  13. Experience with Guidewire and/or the insurance industry is a strong asset.
  14. Experience with hybrid (on-premise / cloud) architecture with a focus on AWS is a strong asset.
