The overall role of the Application Architect is to guide the definition and management of IMT solutions to GoA business needs, ensuring that both functional and IMT strategic objectives are met. A key focus will be on implementation of the application architecture to produce measurable benefits.


As a member of a team of architects, each with different focus areas/domains, the role of the Application Architect in the context of defining overall IMT solutions is to primarily focus on 'What the solution does'. Working closely with other application architects and designers across the department and the GoA, the Application Architect promotes the design and implementation of an enterprise application portfolio that meets the functional needs of the business, improves capabilities such as integration and reuse, and strives for improvement in areas such as support costs.


This role will primarily provide application architect support to the following projects:

  1. Business Number adoption Planning: Business Number Adoption involves modifying the BN hub (ABIDE application) to receive real-time changes to Canada Revenue Agency's database related to business corporation into the BN hub based on specification created by CRA.
  2. Catalogue and Subscription System (CASS) Database Re-platform Planning: Re-platform the CASS database to current technologies to provide stability and ensure that CASS can be easily enhanced or maintained.
  3. Financial Institutions Policy Document Process – Planning: Digitizing and Automate the manual aspect of the financial statement and annual returns.

Description of Services

  1. Provide high quality expertise in architecting principles, approaches and best practices to effectively support the development of software applications and solutions in a .Net environment.
  2. Assist in buy vs build analysis and documentation for software solutions.
  3. Design frameworks, components and solutions that satisfy business requirements while maximizing the goal of reuse when applicable.
  4. Evaluate current services, recommend remedial actions where required.
  5. Assist in determining hardware/software requirements.
  6. Collaborate with multi-disciplined teams on proof of concept and limited production roll outs.
  7. Provide quality control on production implementations.
  8. Ensure the application architecture is aligned with the ministry and GOA enterprise architecture standards and guidelines.
  9. Assist in developing project plans, schedules, and estimates pertaining to architectural deployment and services delivery.
  10. Assist in developing task lists and resource assignments within the context of architectural planning and deployments.
  11. Provide technical leadership and expertise to project team members by producing written specifications as needed, presenting technical information in formal meetings, and facilitating technical discussions.
  12. Document technical recommendations; provide technical advice and guidance to management, operations, project team members and relevant others.
  13. Document architecture designs, architectural models, related test plans, quality assurance plans, and other documents as required.
  14. Ensure change management processes are followed.
  15. Make recommendations to project team members pertaining to issues, risks and client satisfaction.
  16. Research, evaluate and report on the latest technology trends relevant to business needs.
  17. Provide tracking and reporting of time and status on all work as required.

Qualifications

Experience working as an application architect designing or maintaining solutions that use the development stack and derivative technologies (Microsoft .Net, Java, Python, etc.) within an organization of equivalent size and complexity.
