Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Co-op Student to join our Supplier Development Engineering team at a Major Canadian Tier 1 automotive company. The successful candidate will support various engineering activities during sourcing and launching projects, including risk assessment, sustainability, process auditing, capacity checks and more to sub suppliers. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in supplier and quality management in the automotive industry.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Supplier Management
    1. Identify current suppliers without updated assessments
    2. Work with suppliers to conduct and update assessments
    3. Maintain and share assessment reports with stakeholders
    4. Support the preparation of technical presentations
    5. Support the preparation of management reports
  2. Assessments and Audit Support
    1. Assist and support in the preparation, scheduling, conducting, and completion of assessments to suppliers
    2. Follow up with suppliers for corrective actions
    3. Support the evaluation and completion of the risk assessments to suppliers
  3. Launching and Technical Support
    1. Schedule and conduct meetings
    2. Prepare and update procedures based on drawings for technical discussions with stakeholders
    3. Support the review of suppliers’ Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) packages and follow up for updates
  4. Quality Support and Investigation
    1. Support the investigation of quality issues and root causes
    2. Follow up with suppliers on open items
    3. Contact and schedule visits to suppliers
    4. Support general administrative and office tasks as required
Requirements
  1. Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Industrial, Mechanical, or a related field)
  2. Minimum GPA requirement (3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale)
  3. Understanding of quality control processes and methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, ISO standards)
  4. Familiarity with CAD software and engineering drawing interpretation
  5. Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and supply chain management
Skills and Knowledge
  1. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  2. Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, SharePoint)
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  5. Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  6. Self-motivated with a proactive approach to learning and development
  7. Adaptability and willingness to work and learn in a fast-paced environment
Experience

Preferred prior internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing or automotive environment. Exposure to supplier quality management and development activities.
