Job Description: The Individual Insurance and Wealth business unit represents close to 30 per cent of all Sun Life Financial global revenue and more than 50 per cent of Canadian earnings. We’re a top provider of life, health, and wealth products in the Canadian marketplace. Client-facing expert in a wide range of legal, tax, estate, and financial planning tools and processes. Role partners with Advisors and other experts in providing advanced planning strategies to clients. Supports Advisors with solutions that drive sale and utilization of the full range of SL solutions. The role will also provide education to Advisors and sales team as a subject matter expert. What will you do?
  1. Promote and deliver effective advanced tax, legal, estate, and financial planning expertise and advice to the sales and advisor teams.
  2. Participation in joint field work with advisors working with clients and their own allied professional (accountants and lawyers) to identify potential tax planning opportunities related to their estate planning, wealth planning, and business succession and continuation planning.
  3. Actively participate in and resolve cases identified and advanced from Advisors, applying expertise in devising sound client solutions, working directly with Advisors as needed - including case research and direct client interaction.
  4. Builds Advisor capability through seminars/workshops on advanced financial planning topics.
  5. Deliver and promote sales tools that support Sun Life Financial’s products, proprietary financial planning concepts, and specialty needs analyses, including legal and compliance issues.
  6. Deliver client seminars and associated materials.
  7. Keep current through research and participation in industry profile building activities.
  8. Participate as an active member of the Financial Planning Centre of Expertise, sharing knowledge and insight with others, and contributing to the ongoing development of effective processes and tools.
  9. Driving large/complex insurance case business – shared with Insurance Sales Directors and Business Growth teams.
  10. Technical content and education in Sun Life – shared with the other Business Growth departments, Insurance Distribution, and the Insurance Tax Solutions team.
What do you need to succeed?
  • Strong knowledge of personal and corporate financial planning, including taxation, Compensation Arrangements, charitable wills and trusts, and the dynamics of business and succession planning.
  • Excellent understanding of industry trends and their implication on achieving business objectives.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills, including facilitation, training, influencing, presentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • CPA, LL.B, M. Tax, or FCIA designation.
  • CFP, CLU, FEA, or TEP is an asset.
  • University degree or equivalent business experience.
  • 5 years of financial services experience.
