Job Summary:

The Maintenance Supervisor will act as a link between senior management and frontline maintenance team by serving as the primary channel for flow of maintenance information for SLFNHA Property and Maintenance. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all installation, repairs, and upkeep operations for all SLFNHA facilities. Their duties include leading a team of maintenance workers for Property and JMKL Hostel Departments, and ensuring all building systems are functioning properly.

Qualifications:
  • Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment)
  • Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout Zone is an asset.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Registered with the College of Ontario Skilled Trades in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc., or experience deemed acceptable to the organization.
  • 3 years proven experience as a maintenance supervisor or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) and landscaping.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, ability to lead a maintenance team and function as a cohesive unit working towards common goals.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Competency in planning, budgeting, and strategy.
  • Familiarity with health & safety standards and compliance.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to identify issues and implement preventative measures.
  • The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the maintenance team, generate work orders and enter comprehensive job details and assign tasks through SLFNHA ticketing; ensure that all repairs and installations are performed in a timely and quality manner.
  • Develop and implement a regular preventative maintenance schedule for all equipment and facilities. Conduct inspections for the quality of performed maintenance work.
  • Respond to all emergency maintenance requests as required.
  • Assist the Real Property Manager with preparing the annual maintenance budget and ensure it is adhered to. This includes sourcing and negotiating prices for parts and labor and inventory supplies.
  • Communicate and ensure all health and safety policies are followed and that all maintenance work complies with SLFNHA Policy and Procedures, Occupational Health and Safety, Ontario Building Codes, Federal and Provincial Labour Law and Regulations, etc.
  • Maintain and enforce good record keeping practises for all SLFNHA maintenance and service activities conducted and report on incident occurrences.
  • Provide training and guidance to maintenance staff on new systems, protocols, or techniques.
  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of SLFNHA equipment. Check every maintenance job is executed on time, to the budget and without compromising building user’s safety.
  • Conduct regular weekly, monthly and annual inspections of the facilities to proactively detect potential problems and recommend necessary repairs or maintenance solve problems.
  • Work closely and coordinate with external vendors and outsourced service providers and contractors to protect the interests of SLFNHA facilities.
  • Recommend improvements to the maintenance processes to enhance operational efficiency. Keep an eye on materials and spare parts inventory.
  • Help out with day-to-day equipment maintenance.
  • Check that buildings are safe and not in violation of any regulations.
  • Communicate directly with building occupants to resolve ticket service requests.
  • Report writing i.e. weekly reports, briefing/debriefing notes, employee letters, memo, etc.
  • Ensures that the scheduling is completed and forwarded to all relevant parties.
  • Any other duties as assigned by Property Manager and/or designate.
