Tenth Church is looking for a Community Service Worker to assist in the facilitation of community meals and markets, conduct research, and execute administrative responsibilities.

Ways You Will Contribute:

Assist in the facilitation of community meals and markets:

  • Assist with setup, execution, and take down of Oasis Café, Kits Cares, and the Community Food Market.
  • Collaboratively work with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Help foster a hospitable and welcoming atmosphere.

Communications:

  • Conduct interviews and surveys for various projects.
  • Research neighbourhood-related topics.

Data Management:

  • Create and maintain databases.

Other:

  • Perform other administrative duties as required.

What You Bring:
Must meet the guidelines for the Canada Summer Jobs Grant (see below*).

  • Minimum 2 years of completion of post-secondary; 3-4 years of post-secondary preferred.
  • A degree in Communications, Marketing, Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Theology, Health, Management, or Education is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect well with new people in a multi-ethnic and socially diverse environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organized collaborator who has strong administrative skills and can work independently.
  • Proven ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment, quick to problem solve and de-escalate conflicts as they arise; able to lead with effective listening and emotional maturity.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative.
  • Able to provide Christian spiritual support to staff and program participants as needed.
  • Must obtain Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search.
  • Agree with the Statement of Faith of Tenth Church.

*Eligible Participants – To be eligible, students must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2; and,
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada and under relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

This is a summer contract hourly position where you will work 30 hours per week for sixteen weeks. The contract will commence in May and end at the end of August 2024.

Salary: $17.40 per hour
