Role Profile

Position: Application Engineer

Job Location: Edmonton, AB

Job Type: Full-Time

Status: Exempt

Summary of the Role

The application engineer will provide technical assistance to customers, sales, operations, and product manufacturers. A “hands on” approach is required to problem solve within the organization and with customer’s inquiries about valve application and performance, mode of failure, special customization, and design. This role will work closely with all the departments of the organization as a support link between valve manufacturers and end users.

Responsibilities

  • To maintain 100% commitment to Company’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Preparation and maintenance of detailed 2D & 3D drawings
  • Work hand-in-hand with the manufacturing team to create and release final product
  • Assist in testing of the product to ensure adherence to industry standards and customer’s specifications
  • Monitor product designs for potential improvements and manufacturability constraints
  • Compile data to evaluate feasibility of new product design concepts or strengthen existing designs
  • Review customer specifications and inquiries to determine correct application of product and to resolve any conflicts or ambiguities. Work with sales and customers to get clarification and understanding of job requirements. Provide adequate and accurate instructions to suppliers to meet customer specifications
  • Travel as needed to customer locations for field assistance during turn arounds, persistent field problems, and to discuss or provide training on technical aspects of products
  • Participate in special projects involving new products and provide marketing assistance
  • Participate in activities related to research and development of new valves and look for improvements in current designs. Develop test plans and oversee product testing activities to comply with industry standards, such as functionality testing, fire testing, fugitive emission testing, etc.
  • Participation in customer meetings and development of presentations where public speaking is expected and required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Skills and Abilities

  • Hands on approach with mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling and detailing
  • Computer skills including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to effectively present to customers
  • Ability to work within a cross functional team is essential
  • Ability to interact and develop collaborative relationships at all levels of an organization
  • Detail oriented, independent thinker, self-starter, motivated
  • Self-motivated and with the ability to handle multiple tasks/projects and manage priorities accordingly
  • Understanding of manufacturing constraints

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in Application or Design Engineering and/or Sales Support preferred
  • 1+ years’ experience CAD package preferred
  • Experience in ball valve designs and applications is strongly preferred
