Job Description

The person is responsible for managing and controlling ground transportation activities for sites in the Province of Ontario and Michigan states. He / She will have under her direction the management of a team made up of Transport supervisors, Dispatch supervisors and the team responsible for the drivers dispatching and drivers located in the province of Ontario and in Michigan and Ohio state. He / She will have to ensure the application of safety laws and regulations and transport compliance and compliance with government regulations and see to the application of the best practices of the transport industry. In addition, the selected person will have to collaborate with various stakeholders in the daily management of operations and to ensure compliance, road safety, health and safety, quality of service, and will work in close collaboration with the Ontario Director of transport to identify the opportunities that will improve the efficiency of the entire operation.

Qualifications

In this role you will be responsible for:

  1. Act as a logistics specialist to the organization.
  2. Analyze the performance indicators (KPI) in place and work on improvement related to these indicators.
  3. Collaborating with supervisor on controlling cost and implementing efficiencies
  4. Collaborate with AIM sites, transport supervisors, dispatchers to ensure that the transportation department supplies materials to the appropriate sites at the right time and with the right quantities.
  5. Analyze the efficiency, optimization of movements, routes and weekly driver management.
  6. Ensure the proper use of systems and procedures in place and continuous training of best practices.
  7. Seek the constant improvement of costs and operating methods and take the necessary measures to achieve this.
  8. Ensure that the teams in place communicate with all internal stakeholders: buyers, suppliers, customers and other dispatchers to organize the collection and delivery of scrap metal in an efficient and timely manner.
  9. Review the ground transportation network and find new ways to maximize the volume and weight of products transported while minimizing operating costs.
  10. Ensure that transport-related equipment (tractors and trailers) are properly used, maintained and repaired in a timely manner and that record keeping complies with the requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Transport and DOT laws and regulations.
  11. Ensure that independent truckers adhere to company guidelines and that all transportation and rental contracts and insurance documentation are kept up to date and stored in an organized manner.
  12. Hold periodic independent driver meetings to discuss complaints, raise concerns and maintain supportive relationships.
  13. Hold periodic safety meetings with company drivers in collaboration with the Compliance, Road Safety and Health & Safety teams.
  14. Implement special projects or perform other tasks not mentioned above as requested by management.
  15. Work across departments with sales, finance, engineering maintenance etc.

Essential tasks:

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Logistics or Business Administration;
10 years of management experience in the transport sector;
Knowledge of transport methods, costs and benefits;
High knowledge of laws and regulations in the field of road transport;
Develop and implement profit improvement plans and change management plans.
You are a leader, team manager and a good mobilizing communicator;
You are customer service oriented and have a strong sense for results;
You are organized, analytical and pragmatic;
You are recognized for your sense of negotiation and conflict management;
You are able to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships and maintain a level of professionalism at all times.
Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
