What do you offer?

The Camp Counsellor ensures that children and youth have a positive experience leading to personal growth through fun and rewarding recreation and sport programs. This position fosters self-esteem as well as problem solving and conflict resolution skills in program participants, while working to create an atmosphere of safety, belonging and positive development in accordance with Y policies and procedures.

Some of the tasks of this position include:
  • Leading and participating in all programs.
  • Delivering programming based on skill level and age of participants.
  • Completing all necessary paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Being responsible for the safety, supervision and security of all participants.
  • Developing and maintaining an open, constructive and professional relationship with program participants, caregivers, volunteers, co-workers and supervisors.
What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

Language
  • Ability to work in English
  • Bilingualism is an asset
Experience, Skills and Abilities
  • National Lifeguard Certification, Bronze Cross, Paddle Canada, CUI or other relevant certifications will be strongly considered as assets
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with program participants, members, staff and volunteers
  • Ability to maintain calm demeanor in stressful situations
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment, responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members.
Additional Requirements
  • Applicants must be 16 years old by June 23, 2025.
  • Applicants must have a current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification.
  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required.
  • Semi-annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.
