JOB SUMMARY

The Director, Distribution Engineering and Asset Management provides strategic and operational leadership in managing asset management and engineering programs, policies and procedures and is responsible for developing and directing corporate goals, financial and business plans, and strategies to ensure the effective planning and delivery of programs and services to achieve the Corporate mandate. The Director is also responsible to direct the effective and efficient performance of smart metering and metering equipment installations, maintenance and the overall development, implementation and performance of metering services.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide direction and leadership to staff in organizing and coordinating the development and delivery of system planning, capital projects delivery and operations support which meets customer and corporate needs, optimizing resource utilization, minimizing costs and creating value.
  2. Execute the annual operational plan and ensure a multi-skilled workforce that maximizes labour productivity, minimizes costs, and protects worker and public safety.
  3. Lead the development and execution of effective strategic, operational, and human resources plans and budgets.
  4. Direct continuous process improvement initiatives.
  5. Develop and implement contract structure for major projects, providing turnkey solutions to Asset Management requirements.
  6. Ensure efficient and effective design, costing and project management for new and modified distribution systems.
  7. Fulfill responsibilities as Asset Manager as described in Hydro Ottawa Strategic Asset Management Plan.
  8. Oversee the Operation and Continual Improvement of the Asset Management System, and make strategic decisions that balance asset cost, risk and performance to meet the asset management objectives.
  9. Monitor the effectiveness of the operations, processes, procedures and practices, and develop recommendations and implement the necessary changes and improvements both at the planning and operational levels.
  10. Working with the Chief Electricity Distribution Officer and other Directors, plan, develop and implement division objectives consistent with the strategic direction, ensuring the appropriate balance between creating shareholder value, providing the highest level of service, and at minimum cost.
  11. Working with the Chief Electricity Distribution Officer, develop, administer and maintain divisional policies and procedures consistent with Corporate and Divisional objectives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university; be, or be able to become, a Professional Engineer licensed in the Province of Ontario.
  2. Minimum 10 years’ experience in the electrical utility or related industry.
  3. Progressively responsible management experience, including extensive experience at a senior management level, preferably in the electrical industry.
  4. English essential, both oral and written; bilingual, (English/French) considered an asset.

This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
