The Estimator will review project plans and specifications, perform site visits, and use evaluating methods to establish the construction cost for some of the industry’s most challenging projects. Using detailed construction analysis and historical costs, the estimator will prepare comprehensive cost estimates and supporting data (schedules, material and subcontract price comparison, rate build-up, etc.) for direct and indirect costs to accurately determine the cost of construction.

Ensures compliance with the Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) guidelines of the Group:

  • Enforces safety and evacuation procedures, leading by example (responsible driving, wearing PPE on-site, etc.).
  • Promotes a preventive approach and ensures the health and safety of team members (RPS, working conditions, etc.).
  • Contributes to the implementation of the Action Plan, performance review, and roadmap within their scope.
  • Raises awareness among teams and ensures adherence to environmental guidelines, allocating necessary prevention resources and fostering individual accountability.
  • Govern the process for budgets and financial plan preparation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and provide financial insights for decision-making.
  • Perform variance analysis to identify discrepancies between budgeted and actual financial results, providing recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct financial analysis using various methods, such as trend, variance, and ratio analysis.
  • Prepare and present reports on findings and recommendations to senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of local construction materials and techniques.
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of first principles estimating methodology.
  • Prepares complete estimates for hard bid, cost plus and design-build projects (full cycle bid process).
  • Analyzes specifications, proposals, and related construction documentation.
  • Recommends potential bid strategies for competitive tender projects.
  • Provides technical input regarding project and contract risks.
  • Accurately determines scopes of work and conceptual estimates by drawing on experience, reviewing proposal specifications, drawings and attending pre-bid meetings.
  • Calculates complete takeoff of scopes of work, including material quantity requirements from engineering drawings based on first principles estimating.
  • Assists in review of final estimate to ensure alignment with project schedule and cost goals.
  • Assists with design review options and recommends best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Identifies risk issues and the order of magnitude.
  • Recommends new approaches and ideas to drive continuous improvement within the Estimating department.
  • Prepares, analyzes and coordinates Technical Proposals
  • Related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated history of successful bid results in a deadline driven, fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Ten (10)+ years estimating experience in the civil construction industry.
  • Knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software, familiarity with CAD and MS Project Suite, good skills in managing Office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
  • Fluent in English and good writing skills for Technical Proposals
