Job Summary:

We’re currently seeking a GIS Technician (Contractor) to join our Geographic Information System (GIS) Services team. These innovative specialists are responsible for the development and maintenance of internal and external GIS systems that support Emergency Response Plans (ERPs), web applications, and database solutions. The Technician, GIS will provide technical expertise to enhance and maintain workflows based on best-practice standards, while collaborating closely with our other operational teams to ensure excellence and timeliness of client deliverables.

What You’ll Do & How You’ll Make an Impact
• Design and deliver visually engaging, accurate maps aligned with ERP team specifications to support emergency response planning.
• Provide prompt assistance to internal teams and external clients, leveraging GIS tools to address inquiries and resolve issues.
• Gather, evaluate, and interpret geographic data from diverse sources (e.g., satellite imagery, aerial photos) to support decision-making.
• Use spatial analysis techniques to derive insights, enhance planning, and optimize resource allocation.
• Assess and verify GIS data quality, ensuring accuracy and reliability through thorough validation processes.
• Develop and maintain geodatabases, integrating data from various sources to ensure efficient organization and accessibility.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to meet project goals, align GIS tasks, and provide progress updates to stakeholders.
• Present GIS insights effectively in meetings and workshops, ensuring understanding across teams.
• Stay updated on advancements in GIS technology, tools, and industry trends to maintain best practices.
• Implement QA protocols to ensure GIS data integrity and adhere to regulatory and organizational policies for data management.

Education
• Technical College degree in GIS, or, Bachelor’s degree in Geography or Geomatics with a concentration on GIS
• Recent Graduate with up to 5 years of progressive GIS experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
• Ability to perform high level GIS analysis to produce cartographic maps, and client deliverables.
• Working experience with the ArcGIS Software Suite; including ArcGIS 10.x and Pro.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite of programs such as Excel, Word & Teams
• Demonstrates a strong grasp of cartographic principles and possesses the capability to produce professional-grade maps.
• Ability to acquire, analyze, and disseminate geographic data to determine efficiencies, and data customizations and utilize tools to enhance database scope and functionality.
• Possesses analysis skills to evaluate project requirements and deliverables, identifying opportunities for efficiency enhancements and improving project design.
• Experience writing SQL definition queries.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with clients and
• internal stakeholders by focusing efforts on discovering and meeting their needs.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both verbally and in writing, including effective presentation skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy of spatial data.
