Buckland is looking for a Database Developer

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to Team Lead, Software Development, the Database Developer will work primarily in MSSQL and reporting technologies such as SSIS. The Database Developer’s role is to support the development teams implementation of new systems, services, features and enhancements. In addition to providing guidance, support and knowledge sharing with developers the Database Developer will liaise with our DBA to resolve performance concerns found in production systems. This individual is responsible for defining standards and best practices that all developers should follow. Building and developing checks and balances to ensure new systems and solutions are planned for scalability and growth is critical.

  • Analyze user requirements and based on findings, design functional specifications for client/server databases.
  • Working alongside the Database Administrator (DBA) to design of redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery to ensure effective availability, protection, and integrity of data assets.
  • Store, refine and build data table structures, queries, and associated data systems to improve existing data warehouse systems and data gathering processes.
  • Provide, guide, and build standards relating to SQL development best practices providing direction, coaching and guidance to the applications developers.
  • Lead the evaluation of new systems or significant enhancements for performance and scalability prior to UAT activities.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment to create, deliver, and enhance solutions.
  • Perform other related duties and projects as required.

What we need from you

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other comparable education in the field of technology related to database development.
  • Demonstrated experience working in an Agile software development environment.
  • Experience with continuous integration, continuous delivery, perform testing and benchmarking, Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior Driven Development (BDD), Root cause analysis, Server Maintenance, SQL.
  • Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server (2016), Azure SQL, Microsoft SSIS technologies, TSQL, and SSRS as an asset. (Cube experience considered an asset)
  • Strong understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Evaluate existing or new features and provide detailed technical feedback that a non-technical user can understand.
  • Familiarity with ASP.NET to be considered an asset.
  • Experience using Query Builder, SQL Profiler, and Query Store and data processing flowcharting techniques.
  • Experience utilizing Azure DevOps for Source Control or a continuous integration server and asset.
  • To develop, implement and monitor complex databases, data warehouses, reporting and data related technologies.
  • Strong Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform quality testing and analysis.
